That wo, Iho Democracy of Cumber** land County, in convention assembled, viowtho present political condition of our common coun try os ono of extreme peril. The Constitution having been totally disregarded in late legisla tion, by subordinating the Judiciary to the legis lative branch, by making too negro equal to the. white man In all public places, by subverting the civil power, by placing ten millions of edu cated and refined white people under the control of an illiterate negro racooi four.mllllons, by as suming to regulate the right of suffrage In all the Blatcs, by perpetuating disunion in the sacred name of union, by nourishing hale and discord' among the stales, by reckless expenditure 6f monies to sustain political power, we thlnU’llmt Iho time Is at hand when every citizen who loves Ids political heritage is called upon to use his In dividual exertion to thwort the palpable design ofthe present dominant party, namely the des truction of our present form of republican gov ernment. ¥ Jtvsolvixl, Thai tinder a deep sense of the cala mitous overthrow of onrliberUcs, arrftiaed by tins past action of tho Republican party in Congress and from its future, as threatened in tho boldly avowed sentiments of its loaders, to fasten, ad ditional legislation upon the States of tho Union, still farther from constitutional prerogatives, mu) by which t lie checks and restraints of our original government shall lie obliterated, and a consolidated and centralized power In the par son of Congress absolutely despotic, substituted, It. becomes a people, whose principles breathe unalterable adherence to a constitution, requir ing each department of the government to exer cise its legitimate’Junctions whether ns aids or cheeks, to rise and avert the hold usurpation of an unprincipled national legislature. Resolved, That in the 21)0.000 voters of last, fall’s election wo see an army, powerful to resist en croaching power and slrong and heroic enough to stop tins deprivation of constitutional liberty, anti that its potent organization should not bo delayed by any Inertness or want’of administra tive courage on tho part df him hi whoso humid the generalship has been committed, namely tho chairman of the Slate Committee of Pennsylva nia. That wo unanimously pledge our hearty support and best exertions to the whole ticket us just- nominated, and recommend it throughout to tho people of tho county. After tho adoption of these’ resolutions the Convention adjourned. Louis Young, .—James Kecder, The Comino Man.—We are informed that on Saturday last, three “colored gcmmca” in the employ of our musical friend Prof. John A. MoKeehan, of West Pcunshoro, were sent to the field for the purpose of spreading manure. On going to the field shortly afterwards Mr. Mo- Keehan found his laborers luxuriating in the shade of an oak tree and no work going on. He directed them to go to work, when they flew up in, high dud gooih told him to “go to h—l,'and spread his own manure” and left the premises.— Mr. MoKeehan took the fork and pro ceeded to work, and shortly afterwards they returned and demanded their pay.—’ This he declined to give them, when one of them attempted to strike him; and getting a good stout blow.in return, wrest ed the dung-fork from Mr. McKoehan's hands and attempted to run him through with the prongs. Mr. M., by running, made good his escape to a heap of stones, where he prepared to defend himself. — The darkies, fpariug the arrival of rein forcements, finally made good their re treat. Could not. our genial, Jovial and musical friend treat us to another song at the Republican Mass Meeting this fall, and take for his theme the blessings of ne gro equality. The subject in his hands, after his recent experience, would doubt los prove a fruitful one. And as their will doubtless be considerable of this sort of thing, it will bo well to educate the people up to the proper standard. 0 0 Tub Gibson Trial.— The three Gib sons arrested for the hilling of Jacob Shatter,' at Falling Springs, Perry coun ty, had their trial last week. ■ln the ease ;of the son, who is said to have killed Shatter; the jury rendered a verdict of murder.in the second degree.
