The day was pleasant and the young folks enjoyed themselves in the usual festivities and amusements incident to these gatherings. An. Assault with Intent to Kill. —On Monday evening, Alex. Washing ton, (colored,) made an assault on old Ban, also colored, beating him in the most brutal manner with a club or stone. On a hearing before Justice Crawford, Wash ington was committed, in default of bail, to the safe keeping of Fort Jacobs. The Wheat Crop.—The midge or flying weevil has made its appearance in the late growing wheat in tbls neighbor hood, and from their numbers promise its total destruction. It is the opinion of good judges that the early wheat is al ready beyond the ravages of this insect, and therefore the majority of the growing crop in this section is safe. SEIPPENSB UJRQ ITEMS.
