We enjoyed the luxury of seeing several Individuals measuring their lengths on the icy pavements—on each of ■which occasions we were forced to repeat the lines of the poet: “ Water-fall was there, My Countrymen!” Escape op a Pbisonek. —The prisoner John Eandolph, who has been confined in our jail for some weeks, charged with being one of the party who robbed Mr. Kiehl, of North Middleton township— an account of which we published at the time— made his escape an hour or so be fore day-light on Sunday morning. By means of a chisel and hammer, he dng through the side of his cell, got into the prison yard, and, being prepared with a ro pe, scaled the wall, and was off at the rate of "two-forty.” Every effort was made to track him, but up to this time he has escaped the vigilance of the officers. Highway Eobbeby, —On the 9 th inst., aman named Elijah M’Cool was found lying on the ice in the middle of the Tennsylvania canal surrounded by a pool ®fPater. He was insensible, his pockets turned inside out, and other evidences of the kind left an impression with the au thorities that he had been foully dealt Pith. The unfortunate man was placed m the county prison where he could re vive medical attendance.
