We say allowed; because, it cannot get a foot hold where a farm i free of It except it has permission to do so from the,oc cuPier: cif.-the land. It-usually visits him in purchased seeds, or it may steal over his lines from the lands of a care less neighbor; but in either event it is easy to dispatch. it If taken in time, and the farmer who neglects to take it In time and destroy it root and branch, Is disqualified to be the tiller of the soil, and besides commits au offence against . the law, and community which the taw is intended to protect.. Where only a few thistles make their appear ance, as they commonly.do in patches, they should be totally removed, not .a piece of root the size of a finger nail - should be left. or it:will produce a shoot. Where they sudderity appear k large numbers they should be cut off close to the ground, and just before a rain tile hollows in the stalks should be filled with common salt. One dose this way is enough, But; . should they exist in still larger numbers, cutting down with the scythe as fast a they appear, and frequent cultivation of the ground, will exterminate them. CH•lidPila; FOR :HOMES' WIND Many years ago, I recollect a horse be ing brought into the.yard of Joseph Blgual, a celebrated man for keeping hunters, at Croyden. * The hoist: was - very much affected in the wind, and conldl.4rdly move houi distrtts. In a very few days this animal did Its reg ular work as a - hunter, with perfect ease and comfort to itself. Tar water was the cure. Tar is carbon, and char coal is also carbon ; charcoal in the powder is more easily given than tar .water. I have tried it with most ben eficial effect ; and I think it stands to reason that the removal of noxious gases and flatulence from the stomach of the horse must improve his wind and condition. Tar is frequently' given with benefit in - cases of chronic diseases of the respiratory organs ; _but its effects are totally dillbrent from those produced by charcoal (carbon.) UNCONSCIOTS INFLUENCE OVER ANI - im.A.V.--The horse is like his idriver, and the dog like his master. A nervous, timorous man=ia almost sure to have a skittish horse, shying at anything, unsteady, and a runaway if he gets a chance. Many a cow is spoiied by the lack of patience and quietness the milker, and the amount of miWde pen& more upon the milker than the pasturage. If a man is afraid of a horse the animal knows it before he goes to the stable. We have seen the most inoffensive coop t in the herd so wrought upon by theinervousness of a greenhorn son of Erin, as to deatreous ly plant her foot in his breast and send him rolling heels over-head. A noisy, boisteOus fellow about fattening stables will cause a serious loss in gain of flesh to the animals—so important is quiet to them when they are digesting their food. FARMlNO.—Horrace Greely says, in his-papers, entitled "What I Know of Farming," ; "I readily admit that shiftless farmers don't pay—that poor crops dont pay—that it is hard work to make money by farming without some capital—that frost, or liaii, or drought, or floods, or insects, may blast the farmer's hopes after he has done his best to deserve and achieve success; but I insist that, as a general proposition, GOOD Farming DOES pay —that few pursuits afford as good a prospect, as full au insurance of re ward for intelligent, energetic, persis tent eftbrt, as this does."
