RAIN.—We are informed that at Hersh & Brother's Ware House, to New Oxford, they have been receiving grain of various kinds for' the pest few weeks, at the rate of from eight, ten and twelve hundred bUshels per week. There is a continual bustle of loading and unloading from Morning until night. Farmers must be preparing for the Ist of April, to meet demands. CLOSED.—The religion/ meetings that commenced about six weeks ago, and were held every !ILIA, in the Methodist Church iu New Oxford, closed last week. Quite a number were converted. POSTPONED.—Mr. Murdoch, who had been announced to read in Agricultural Hall on Monday evening last, telegraphed his inability to fill the engagement, be ing announced for a Reading in`Philadel• phi:Atm Tuesday night. The engagement for t:stivsburg was made under the im pression that be could reach Philadelphia in time to till both appointments. This being found impracticible, his Reading in Agricultural Hall has been fixed for the 28th inst. EX HIBITION.—The colored folks re peated their recent Exhibition in Agricul tural Hall on Tuesday night. The bonne was well filled, the receipts at 15 cents yielding over V 3 1 .), The perfor, mances were Hap and racy, evoking uprorious demonstrations. "Young America" scented to have control of the hall and ~ e re evidently bent on having a good time. The audience, however, seemed to be in a good hunior throughout and ap parently enjoyed the fun. -We have received from Messrs. Lee S. Shepard, Boston, Mass., a copy of "The Bible and the School Fund," by Rev. Rufus N. Clark, D. D. It is an argu ment in favor of retaining the bible in the Common Schools, the author holding its exclusion to be unwise and fatal to the ends of education. The main arguments in thiA work were first presented in a series of discourses preached by Dr. Clark in the First Reformed Church of 4 Albany, N. Y. Paper covers 90 cents; cloth 75 cts. PR ESENTATION.—A pleasant incident came off on Tuesday night last, in "Gettys Lodge No. 124, 1. 0..0. F." A handsome edition of Pilgrim's Progress, costing $25, was presented, as a testimonial of regard, to Mr. JAMES McCnutinr, who for many years has faithfully discharged the duties of Secretary, Rev. W. R. 11. Detrick making the presentation speech. The affair had been so delicately managed that that the worthy Secretary knew nothing of it, and watts° much taken by surprise as to be unable to give expression to his feel ings, beyond the acknowledgment of bla thanks to the brethren for their kindness and the valuable gift so unexpectedly tendered to him. THE WEATHER.—Nothing seems to ho of more importance that the weather . It to speak o ft ener of it than of anything else be a test. Is any salutation more com mon than—"A fine day," or "a wet day," or "a cold day," or "a snowy day," or" a disagreeable day," or a "muddy day," as the case may be? But the weather all along has been most extraordinary. One day brings a furious rain storm, pausing only at intervals, and then closing with a gorgeous sunset. The next is probably ushered in by a snow storm, blustering and blowing at a furious rate, until night, when the clouds lift, showing a firmanent radiant with star-lit glory. Sunday last as usual, we had rain, hail and snow; and ao we go. DONATION.—Some time ago we notic ed a pleasant donation visit to Rev. A. J. Bender, of the Allegheny Circuit, Mary land, by members , of his charge. We learn that on the evening of the 20th ult., he was the recipitent of another favor of :the same kind. At an early hour his friends assembled at the Parsonage, and soon the house was filled to overflowing not only with people, but with a bountiful supply of refreshments for the inner man. After a pleasant exchange of greeting.* be tween pastor and people, the receipts of the evening were handed over, amounting to 'l3l, with $2 more in substantial& Rev. Mr. Bender hails from Adams county, and his numerous friends will be glad to learn of the favorable impression he has made in his new fleld ; of labor. BELL RINGERS.—The Peaks Family of Bell Ringers gave two exhibitions in Agricultural Hall last week. The reputa tion of the troupe and novelty , of making good music with bells," attracted Air houses. The musical part of the enter tainment iris very line, Eddie Peak's. skill and dexterity In manipulating the bells being specially admired.
