tieatstr tab i _ . *teat COISRMON OP THE CROPS OLT i t following is an abstract from "Con di of the. Crops" in the Monthly lisped or A v iculture for July : • edino.—The most remarkable fact in con nection with the corn crop of the present year is the great increase of its acreage in the month, the difference in number of acres beteee the present and preceding year being MOM ihan two millions and a halt These figures show an increase of over 3,000,000 of . Wes in corn, making about 86,000,000 in the United States, an advance of nine per cent. The drought in the south has re tarded somewhat the growth of corn, but its condition in that section is generally good. In the west the average is high, with tot-eXtVion of. Ohio and Indiana, where Abe weather has been somewhat tm- MPhil:Etta, and storms destructive. In the east, on the bast of June, the growth was snail, but the hot weather of July has brought a large portion of the, crop into Wendell condition. WIIZAT.—The condition of wheat, as shown in the July returns, is above the averagb for last year in all the States ex cept Vermont, Connecticut, the Carolinas, faiDorgis, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, - and. Nebraska. The season has been peCiliarly favorable to the growth and ripening of this- great bread crop in all except the southern States. The favorable reports are so numerous, in the western States especially, that it is unnecessary to give, them In detail. • • xceptiona to this showing are frequent in the south where rust 'Wm{ more or less prevalent. Some loss from the same cause resulted in Maryland and in the similar lati tudes in the west. In a few localities loss from lodging is reported. Unusual exemp tion from winter killing is manifested, re ports of 'damage from freezing coming only from northern Vermont, some portions of the Ohio valley, and still more southern belt. Very few accounts of destruction by the midge are received. In Lebanon coun ty, Pennsylvania, this insect is charged with taking one-third or the crop. In Clin ton, Indiana, some loss is also sustained from insects.. In , Queen Anne county, Maryland, the extreme heat shriveled the grain in ripening, leaving it light and poor. In the Miami valley thousands of acres of wheat just ripening have been destroyed by floods, and other crops suffered from the same cause. Other sections of the State were visited, by destructive rains at the same time, and much injury resulted to wheat, corn and other crops. With a suc cessful harvesting of the spring wheat it may safely be declared, in summing up the localreixirts, that a larger number of bushels of wheat, by many thousands, will be grown in the 'United States in 1868 than any pre vious season. Rye, oats, and barley promise abundant crops; no serious drawbacks are reported, and few complaints of bad condition are received. Potatoes, so exceptionably unproductive last yeir, are In unusually fine condition, and the average is increased in every State exceptithode Island—the natural result of extremely high prices of last year's crop. t Fruit Is variable ; apples and peaches less promising than usual. Vermont, New Jer sey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Arkan sas, Missouri, lowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ken tucky, and West Virginia, make a worse record than'other States as to apples.— Peaches will be less abundant than apples; NeWlerey, Maryland, and Delaware pro mising but half ,a crop, and Illinois and Michigan showing a considerable reduction. A fair promise of grapes is indicated. Sorghum is generally doing well in the west ; not so well as usual in the middle belt of southern States. THE C.&TVILF,DIANJLISE. ITS EATAGNS IN INDLNA-MOICE THAN ONE RUNDRED (lOWA READ. - A singular and fatal disease has broken out among the milch cows; in New Albany, Indiana, and adjoining counties, where Texas cattle have been pastured or fre quently driven. Up to 27th ult., not less than one hundred cows have:died in the city and near it. • It is believed this disease has been brought by the Texas cattle, as in all the infected districts these cattle have either been henied or driven. It„is ascertained that upon all the cows that have died there are immense numbers of ticks and lice, such as are al ways to be found upon the Texas cattle. These ticks and lice are generally found upan.the bag or udders of the cow, or in the groins near the bag. The ticks are much larger in - size than the ordinary wood tick of this section, and the lice of the same kind as are always found upon the Texas cattle brought here. These ticks or lice, it is believed, poison the blood and cause inflammation and par tial congestion of the lungs and pleura.— This congested state of these vital organs is noticed in all cattle opened after death. - It is noticed that the cows attacked by this sin Alar disease are all affected In the urinary organs, the urinary discharges be ing almost entirely suppressed. An exami nation of several cows after death shows the bladder to be greately distended, and filled with dark or blood-colored matter.—' In some cases the urinary discharges have been very black, and coagulated blood have been found. The, symptoms of attack are in all in stances the same. First the milk begins to fail. Then the animal droops its head near the ground, the ears also drooped and moved with apparent pain—the head, when oppor tunity offers, is pressed against any hard or cold substance. About the second day of the attack trembling of the flanks and hard breaking ensue : the animal beam:Lary weak and its legs bend " and are y under its weight ; there is a disposition to lie down and almoSt Imtnediately arise, and this continues until the third day, when the disease usually terminates fatally, few cattle living into the fourth day after the attack. Only cows have so far been attacked. A Chicago (TIL telegram of the I4th says : There is considerable excitement among cattle sellers and buyerain this city, in con sequence of a disease 'that has recently broken out among beef cattle in the cen tral part of the State. Out of several lots of cattle received here by the Illinois Central railroad, and pur chased and shipped east day before yester day, seven head died on the cars between here and Pittsburg. Dealers mining them have telegraphed to the, Union yards here requesting agents to buy no more cattle hare. A general panic is occasioned among Ilse cattle men in consequence. Governor Fletcher, of Missouri, has issued a proclamation notifying all persons en.. gaged In driving cattle into thatlitate that, by provision of law, such cattla. must be inspected by the Board appointed for that purpose, and if found to be diseased or dis tempered, "or in a condition to corminni cate any contagious or infections disease or distemper, called or known as Spanish or Texas fever" must be taken out of the State by Use route on which they were driven in. Zingari Bitters. frIIIS WONDERFUL REMEDY was discovered ; and introduced about twenty years ago by Dr. S. Cheapens, an eminent Egyptian physician. Ile had long seen awl felt the want of same remedy i which would strike at the root of disease, and so prevent much atilt, suffering which the human (ami ty wan then compelled to endure. This great question was presented to his mind I every day in vivid colors as he moved amougthealek caddying, and observed the inetliciency of nearly all the remedies then in use. Thus he was led to think ; Vi and experiment; and after tea years' study and tidier. he presented is his fellow-min the wonderful Zinger) Bitters. The effect of this preklarallon in the pea' .ventlon and cure of disease was SO to trvellous and astonishing, that the most flattering marks of royal favor were bestowed upon him who discovered It.— ; His name wan placed upon, the Roll of Nobles, and • a gold medal with the following inscription—Dr. 8. The old saying that an °unreel' prevention la worth a pound of cure, applies with marvellous force to eholera, and therefore any 'remedy that will protect us against this terrible disease should be freely and persistently need. ♦II pathologists now agree that tha cholera poison acts on the system through tLe blood, and that any combination which acts on the excretory organs, and keeps then, In working order, must prevent a sufficient necurnulstion old, poison to exert its terrible effects on the organism. This is true not only of cholera, bat of nearly all other mai edies, especially the different forms of fever. The Zinidari Bitters Is just such a remedy u the above conditions require. It arta on the organs of excretion and secretion, keeping up a perfect bal ance between them. This Bitters is composed en• tirely of roots and herbs, a, nicely concocted that every organ is acted upon and put in tone. Its taste is pleasant and its effects prompt and lasting.
