HOLTZ WO Esq., succeeded in arresting, on Wednes day, two of the party charged with steal ing harness, sleigh belts, &c., in Carroll's Tract, last fall. Their names are WIL LIAM and GEORGE METERS. Living in the mountain, they all along managed to evade arrest, but this time were taken completely by surprise. Whilst descend ing the mountain with the prisoners, MOSSZ£I. RAILROAD ITEMS.—We understand that a survey is in progress, for a railroad from Emmitsburg to the Western Mary land railroad. The purpose is to tap the the latter near the Monocacy ; the estima ted distance is about seven miles. The Frederick and Pennsylvania Line railroad company has been organized.— We understand that there are conflicting preference as to the best route North. Some favor the extreme Eastern route by Lit tlestown; others prefer a route along the Monocacy to the neighborhood of Ertl wits burg ; and others prefer a more Westerly route, striking the mountain. Both the latter schemes contemplate a junction with the old State railroad, which would make a connection with Gettysburg.— The chief argument in favor of the latter route over the first named is that it will bring the road that much nearer the, great coal fields of the State, bituminous and anthracite. If the Sonthern Pennsylvania be pressed to completion, the whole Broad top region would betoponed to the trade of that portion Of Pennsylvania and all con necting districts; JOSEPH L. SEIORB was appointed dele gate to the next State Convention. A series of resolutions were reported by the Committee, and adopted. GRANT AND COLFAX CLUB.—The Borough "Giant and. Colfax. Club" had a spirited meeting at the Eagle Hotel, on Friday evening last, which was addressed by Hon. EDWARD McPnEnsox. The fol fowing Officers were unanimously elected: President—Capt. A. M. Hunter. Vice Presideuta.--Capt. Wm. R. Eyster, Col. C. H. Buehler. ThecorcLing Secretary—John M. Krauth, Corresponding Secretary--Coi. E. G. Fahnestoek. Treasurer—Capt. J. F. McCreary. Executive Committee—Sergt. Frank D. Duphorn, Capt. T. C. Norris, Lieut. J. W. Cress, Sergt. John McAllister, Capt. Win. T. King. The Executive Committee have secured the Hall above the "STIR AND SENTINEL" office for the regular meetings of the Club, which will, be open every Friday evening from this time until the election. The' Club starts with an an active, vigorous organization and will doubtless do good duty in the campaign. All the officers were in the military service during the Rebellion, and will labor to preserve by the ballot the piificiplw they fought for in the field. _ BUILDING LUMBER, ic.—The atten tion of Farmers, Builders, Contractors, and others, is invited to the large assort • ment of LUMBER of all kinds suitable for building • purposes, to be found at Col. It has also received the highest commendation from Physi cians who have used it in their practice, with complete success; The Hoolland's Bit ters is a strictly medicinal preparation, and contains no alcohol, rum, or whiskey, HOOFLAND'S GERMAN TONIC Is a combination of all the ingredients of the Bitters, with pure Santa Cruz Rum, or ange, anise, 6:o. It is used for the same diseases as the Bitters, in oases where an Alcoholic Stimulant is necessary. It is a preparation of rare niedicinal value, and most agreeable to' the palate.
