Dr. Radcliffe, of Philadelphia, last week, operated on George Emerick, of this place, for cataract of the eye. John Fortney died at his home near Tusseyville, on Friday, May 27, aged vo years and 9 months. Mrs, William Bible, of this place, died on Wednesday morning, 8th, Mrs. Bible had a stroke of apoplexy some years ago, since which she has been an invalid. A new school building is going up in Miles township, in the Brumgard dis. trict, F. A. Foreman, of this place, has been engaged. by the Millheim school board, to open a select school at that place after harvest and the next winter term of public school. On last Monday, Co. B, of Bellefonte, received their new arms. They are Springfield rifles, calibre 45 and of latest design. Their armory was destroyed with the Bush Arcade conflagration last winter, Dr. C. S. Musser, of Aaronsburg, is attending a medical association in ses. sion at Chicago this week, The doctor expects to make an extended tour through the south and west before re- turning home. Penes creek has been unusually high during the past week, caused by the continued wet spell. At Spring Mills, Runk’s saw mill was slightly damaged. The Gentzel school house, in Gregg. was undermined by the creek and somewhat damaged. The Bohemian oats victims in Centre county have again called a meeting at Brown's hotel, Bellefonte, June 1.
