DEAD IN BED, PENNSYLVANIA R. R. | Philadelphia & Erie R. BR. Division and Northern Central Railway. ATTORNEYS. J, C, Stover, of Coburn, Comes to an Un. timely End, On Sunday morning the community of Coburn was startled by the report that J. C. Stover had been found dead in bed, and upon further inquiry the report turned out to be only too true. No person living in the house at the time of his death, and indications pointing to the cause of his death as being of a mysterious nature, J. F. Garthofl, Esq., was called upon to im- paunell a jury of inquest to ascertain the cause of his death. A. P. Zerby, J. B. Kern, J. M. Harter, Levi Spigel- myer, BR. O. Brought and D. L. Ker stetter, good and lawful citizens, were chosen to conduct the inquest. A number of witnesses were heard, the jury rendered a verdict “That J. C. Stover came to his death by paralysis of the heart caused the excessive use of intoxicants.”’ The testimony given at the inquest was to the effect that Mr. Stover left home on Saturday morning and went to Coburn in company with a compan- ion, where they remained a short time and then went to Millheim, and got to drinking pretty freely. Towardseven- ing they again returned to Coburn, here they were joined by three others; who procured three pints of whiskey somewhere to continue the About half-past ten they left for Mr. Stover’s home, and reached there an half hour later. The doors being bar- red they affected an entrance through a window, and Mr. Stover was put to bed and his comrades went to leaving him alone. Mrs. Sto- ver had gone to a neighbor's in the evening to spend the night. She fear- | ed one ofthe men. About daybreak Sun- | day morning Roland Finkle, who! worked for Mr. Stover, came to the bedroom and called him but received no answer, but considered nothing wrong, supposing he was in a deep slumber, and Finkle went to work in the barn. In the meantime Mrs. Sto- ver came from and went directly to the bedroom, found to her horror that her was dead. wise | JOHN ELINE Tims Table, 10 elffcct May 21, 1505.
