At aboutone o'clock in the night, Mr. Harter, who sleeps up stairs, heard an unusual noisa below. He quickly and quietly went down a flight of steps that enter the kitchen and tr ed to open the door rien but the creaks ing of the hinges, he thinks, must have frightened the burglars, who made a hasty flight. Mu, Harter found the win- dow hoisted and securely fastened with a chisel that was tightly stuck between the sash and frame, no doubt to leave an easy retreat for the robbers in case of emergency. On looking out he saw two men walking the street, but made no at- tem pis to go after them. ~All the houses in Bellefonte have been taken up, which indicates a revis val of trade there, which we are pleased to note.
