The new ballot law is an Imjierfect measure, but it Is lictter than the old one. The practical politicians didn't like It and at first meant to defeat 't in the senate. I'.nt public .sentiment was too strong for them and they were obliged to content themselves with making it as intricate as pns.-ihlo and ordained that it should be tried for the first time at the coming na tional election. Recently they have been talking about its cost, the huge size of the ballots, the probability of there being no election, their whole purpose being to prejudice the people against the law and render its repeal easy. In this way they have met witli a measure of success. We want to say, howevei, that every citizen whohaslM-en led to doubt the utility of the lasv has been decitived. Wfoorin Trfo ii tic.
