Tbey did not believe this was all that Bortmas had, and resorted to the torture of the coals agp.in to force him to re?eal the hiding place of the rest. He protested, under torture, that be bad no more and the robbers finally ceased, tying Bortmas to the bed-poet. The men went into the kitchen, where tbey cooked themselves a hearty supper and ate It at their leisure. It was after 10 o'clock when they left. The people returalng from a party heard Bortmas' cries and released him. No clue to the robbers has been obtain ed. BROWN Died at his home In Lilly, on Sunday February 20, 1887, Mr. James C. Btown, aged 29 years. It Is with more than ordinary feelings nf regret that we cbronicle the death of Mr. Brown. He had been enjoying bis nsual good health and on Tuesday was a member of the election board at Lilly. On the same evening he took a cold which developed into typhoid pnenmonla, which steadily grew worse and ended in death on Sunday after noon about one o'clock. Mr. Brown was a gentleman of fine attainments, a school teach er by pofesston and was a graduate of tbe Ird'an State Normal, School class of 80 In 1881 Mr. Brown was married to Miss Jennie Stewart, daughter of Mr. John Stew art of Snramitville who survives bim with two children, a bov aged three and a girl aged one year. He taught school for two years Id Johnstown and then removed to LUly where be resided np to the time of bis death, He was an honest, upright.
