Eight dwelling houses r Petersburg, Huntingdon county, and vicinity, were en tered and robbed by burglars on Saturday night. On Sunday night .some trainmen on the Pennsylvania Railroad saw a llg'it in a vacant schoolhouse helow the town, and on going to It three or four men jumped from a rear window, ran into the woods and es caped. Alexander Ilihbard, a young roan living in Milwaukie, on Friday last swallowed a silver dollar and at latest accounts was still living. His attending physician keeps him on a diet of milk and cornmeal and is ad ministering powerful medicines. He ex presses his confidence that tbe coin will be I removed without fatal results Ex. This shows the dangers of a depreciated silver i currency, aDd is a strong argument In fayor I of stopping the coinage of silver. The diffi- i culty In passing it is its greit objection, and is very forcibly illustrated in this case. A Paying Investment. One of the latent enterprises spoken of In this place is a steam grist mill, and with in the last month two different pf ties have been examining into the surroundings with a view to building a mill. That a mill in this place would pay is not questioned, as there is a large amount of good wheat raised in the neighborhood, and the quantity la yearly Increasing, while th amount of flour shipped to this place alone would furnish a good trade for a mill. It would aUo furnish our farmers with a market for erain that they now have to take to either J .hnsrown or Altoona to dispose of. The ground csu be bought low; the lumber and building mate rials can be obtained as cheap, if not c! eap er than at almost any j.ther place, while the railroad facilities for shipping to and from the mill would be as goo.1 as at any other point along the Pennsylvania railroad, and we think our borough officials should, and we baye no doubt would, give the project ors some substantial encouragement in the way of exemp'ion from taxation for several years. The number of mining towns in the near neighborhood would also furnish a mar ket for the flour that Is now brought from mills located in oilier ct.unties, and the un developed mineral wealth In a'l diiections gives a promising assurance that the borne demand must always be on the increase. It was manufac j tured in Munich, Bavaria, from that great j artist, John Marggraff. almost two years' I time having been expended In its construc i tion. It in of the pure Gothic style, which j has onlv been produced in the Middle Ages, i In the iftnsa is the Lamb with the Book of the Sevrti Seals, and on either side the sacri fice f Ahraham aud Metchisedech, in relief. The tabernacle is richly gilded with sign work. On either side or the tnbernacle Is an adoring angel and the holy Evangelist al , leifoticaliy represented. Above this in main j r-ltef is the statue representing St.. Bene dict (the Patron Saint of the church) Bend ! ing out St. PIncidus and St. Maurus as mis i sionarles, a true ideal of great feeling and I dignity. On one side of tte main relief are t the Matures representing St. Otto and St. ! Anselm.and on tbe other SS. Scholastica and Gertrude. These statues are four feet high and proportionate. At even a close inspec- tion they would convince the beholder that ' they were of wax-work, so delicately and j perfectly is every feature produced ; but i tiiey ar actually carved from wood. The 1 Diain portion of the altar is made of Bavari an oak. beautifully and artistically carved, with gilt finish. The tahle of the altar is of ; Italian marble.
