Altoona, Dec. 20, 1870. FaieKD Mao Local newB is plentiful enough, but as a certain gentleman once remarked, it Is of "such a character as would befit the col umns of the Police Uazetieor Hatper'a Week ly talher than those of a respectable journal" like the F&mman. I will venture, however to sift some of them and take the "smut" out, but as I ata somewhat pressed for time, my task must needs be hastily attended to. Quite a sensation was created at the Ln.m House a few days ago, caused, if I am rightly inioruiea, l,y one of the waiters, named Black, who 6cems to be possessed of a heart too capa cious lor one woman to fill, taking unto him self wil No 2 without waiting for wile No. 1 to "shuffle off this mortal coil." or, to use a slang phrase, "hand in her chips and peg out." 1 he happiness of the muchly married individ ual, however, was of but brief duration, for scarcely had he warmed up under the gentle influence of the sunuy dmiles bestowed upon him by his new made, blushing bride, or en tered into the erjoymeut of that blisslul season known nb the hot;eymoonf ere some euvtous creatuie, not the possessor of such a "laiigic" amount ot matrimonial felicity, informed wife No. 1 of the doings of her sporting spouse, and then you nii.y ie', there was trouble in the wig wam. Early next morning the deserted and iLdjgnan womnn whom he had fiiet wooed and won appeared upon the scene, and in le?s time than it takes to U-11 it, the horevmoou and all its sweet delighta Lad vanished 'into thin air. And in oi-Jer to facil itate these sales the 'I uibisk prints forty-two puffs in its last issue, and we see posters on ail the dismal corners of vacant fences and the dead wal's of many buildings throughout our town. Chickens, tutkeys and other fowls, too, are coining into town in great JJ icks. and peo ple old and young are preparing for the blessed and joyous anniversary, irtay all classes enjvy it to the full exteut, end tt:iy the rich muke it doubly joyful to themselves and to th.-ir les. favored neighbors by contributing of their abundance to tho securing of much needed comforts for the deserving poor they whom the beloved Saviour, born on Ci ristmas dy, com mended to the Care of those woild favored mortals who desire the salvation of their own immortal souls. We have now a regular Stock Exchange in our town. Almost every Saturday stocks and securities of various kinds are offered at public sale at the Market house. Bridge stock, gas stock, water works stock?, Mechanical Woiks stcick. etc., are bought and sold like potatoes or cabbage. Another evidence of the growing prospeiitv of our tow n. Johu U. Dudtley, a sailmaker, of Wilmirg ton, Del., had one of his legs so shockingly crushed while attempting to get on a moving freight train, on Wednesday last, that Drs. Yeagley und Emberson had to amputate the limb. He was destitute of funds, and was en deavoring to "bump" LU way homeward w hen the accident occurred.
