TO THE REPUBLICAN ELECTORS OF PENNSYLVANIA. I am directed by the Republican State Com mittee to announce that the Republicans of Pennsylvania, by their duly chosen representa tives, will meet in convention at the Lyceum theatre in the city of Harrtaburg, on Wednesday, June 6, 1906, at 10:30 a. m., for the purpose of nominating candidates for the following offices, v 'is One person for the office of Governor; One person for the office of Lieutenant-Gover nor; One person for the office of Auditor-Geneial. One person for the office of Secretary of Inter nal Affairs; and for the transaction of such other business as may be presented. In accordance with the rules governing the party, the representation in the State Conven tion will he based upon the vote polled at the last Presidential election. Under the rules each legislative district is intitled to one delegate for each two thousand votes cast for Republican electors in 1901, and an additional delegate for every fraction of two thousand votes polled in excess of one thousand. By order ofthe St*»te Committee, W. R. ANDREWS, Chairman. The Bradford Era fays: The friends of Hon. Charles W. Stone are very active in his behalf. They desire to see him nominated for governor on the Republican ticket. They recognize in him a man who would be a compromise candidate —one who would stand well with the anti-organization Republicans and who would also be a "regular" at the same time, and have the support of the regulars. It need not surprise anybody to learn that delegates are Iming selected in his interest, even now, although the Pittsburg Gazette's information is to the effect that as yet he has not fully reached a conclusion on the advisability of formally entering the arena. The flight of wild birds during mi grating time against lighthouses is more like the action of the green bicy clist who rides against a trolley car or wagon as if hypnotized by it and in |p Ito of his fears. A little fire built beneath one of the pear ; luipi d pa| cr wasp nests that are seen hanging frotu low branches will kill every wasp in it, as the insects lly at it one by one in their endeavors to tsave their home and young. StrmiKr Captivity. The springbok of South Africa mi grate in vast herds, moving in a com pact body and carrying everything be fore them. If a flock of sheep be In the line of march —as it sometimes happens—it is surrounded, enveloped and becomes, willingly or unwillingly, part of the army. An African hunter tells the strange story of seeing a lion In the midst of the antelopes, forced to Join the march. It Is supposed that the lion had sprung too far for his prey, that those upon whom he alighted re colled sufficiently to allow him to reach the ground, and then the pressure from both flanks and the rear prevent ed him from escaping from ids strange captivity. If the springbok travels in such armies, how can those In the mid dle and rear find food? In this wise: Those In the front ranks, after they have eaten greedily of the pasture, gradually fall out of the ranks to rest, while the hungry ones in the rear come up, and so the columns are all the while changing. HIMI 111 an Dent. The head day porter and the head night porter of a hotel, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, became Involved in a discussion on ages. The head night porter confessed to thirty eight. "H'm! Say, I've got you beat ten years," declared the head day. "You mean to tell me you're only twenty-eight?" demanded the head night. "I should say not. I's just forty eight," explained the head day, with an expression of withering disdain. "Then you ain't got me beat no t«n years. I's got you beat just ten years. Say, I got ten years comin' that you won't see again." "Look here, man," declared the head day, "you ain't got no sense. I's sure of them ten years, 'cause I's seem 'em an' been through 'em. You ain't sure of yours. You might die tomorrow." A Source of Contusion. It has been proved by abundant in vestigation that one prolific source of epidemic diseases is found in the lia bility of the germs of such diseases to lodge In the mouth around the teeth and gums. A physician examined the teeth of the children of a certain school. Hi; found disease germs pres ent In almost every case. By careful watching he discovered that those chil dren whose teeth were kept cleanest suffered less from epidemic diseases. The neglected condition of the teeth is, therefore, a common cause of illness. Indeed, If one takes the trouble to ob serve with what rapidity the tartar and cheesy matter accumulate around the teeth of people who are out of health they will not be long in making xip their minds that a thorough and ju dicious use of the toothbrush is not i very far from a means of grace.
