Nebraska might compromise on Pat Crowe for the Senate. He is a good deal of a dark horse. Anyhow, Teddy hasn't been ac cused of shooting a calf under the impression that it was a mountain lion. Michigan proposes to tax bache lors 85 a year. To be altogether fair, girls who refuse eligible offers ought also to be taxed. Col. Henry Watterson says he doesn't know what a high ball is. Now, Colonel, own up. We won't set Mrs. Nation on you. All those stories about Roosevelt will probably turn out to be mere bluffs designed to frighten the Sen ators and keep them quiet. Six Senatorial seats are dead locked, and some of them are like ly to continue so. How long is the Senate to be allowed to block direct elections by the people? The sale of cigarettes has de creased about four millions in two years. We knew the pesky little things were unwholesome, but we didn't think they were fatal enough to bring about that much decline. It looks now as though there must be an extra session of Con gress. Both the Philippines atul Cuba are clamoring for action, and it doesn't seem fair to make them wait nine long months before tak ing up their cases. The courts have decided that Boni's share of the Gould estate is responsible for bis debts. This is just and right. No man can be allowed to deliberately swindle a Jew in this country simply because he doesn't like the race. We hope that the case of war be tween Great Britian and Germany, Wilhelm will not be called upon as Emperor to oppose himself as field marshal, and that Edward will not conceive it his duty to hang him as a traitor if he aids Germany, and Germany to serve him in the same manner if he aids England. Evidently the Philippine war is over, despite the effects of the Democratic press to revive it. This being so, the President ought no longer to be left solely responsible for everything done by the Gov ernment there. Congress should undertake its share of the work. Germany intends that her navy shall bo twice the size of that of the United States in 190 G. In view of the narrow margin by which the United States has avoided trouble* with Germany on one or two recent occasions, it might be just as well for this country to do a little ship building on its own account. Editor Press : You may sing the song of the dinner horn, extol the mellow bugle, the wind of the huntsman born that, calls the merry revelers to the chase that has been one of England's amusements time out of mind. Incomparably more pleasing is the shrill toot of the postman's horn to the rural house wife. She has never starved for the staff of life, never sighed for sweeter music than the warbling of the woodland birds. The delights of the chase she is pleased to accord her English sister, it has no wooing for her. But, she has hungered and thirsted for news of the outside world, with a longing no one can comprehend but the isolated people of a country district. What a change, the once a week mail is a thing of the past. We rise up in the morning with renewed vigor for the day's labor, knowing, no Providence preventing, our worthy post man will be here for our afternoon rest, he never having varied, sunshine or storm, from his accustomed arrival at half past one o'clock to two. The right man for so important a post. Obliging and attentive always. To the Hon. Joseph Sibley, who made it possible for us to receive this great pleasure, we extend our thanks. A powerful engine cannot be run with a weak boiler, and we can't keep up the strain of an active life with a weak stom ach; neither can we stop the human ma chine to make repairs. If the stomach cannot digest enough food to keep the body strong, such a preparation as Kcdol Dyspepsia Cure should be used. It di gests what you eat and it simply can't help but do you good. 11. C. Dear Sirs: You are a maker; so are we. You know what you make: you know all about it. We know our paint as you know your goods. We know what it is, how it acts, what it does, how it lives, and how long— the conditions being favorable or un favorable. It is fair that we take the risk of it every way; but we ought not to risk any use or abuse of it. Can't draw the line. We are dealing with strangers. We are strangers to them as they are strangers to us. We want to be trusted by them. We trust them first; that's the way to get trusted. We trust them to paint with a fair degree of common paint-knowl edge and care. We expect to be trust ed to furnish paint as good as paint can be, and to last as long as paint can. If you do your business that way, you are a fellow with us and one of a thousand. A few mean men in the course of a year will abuse our trust and put us to loss; but 999 in 1,000 will tell their friends how true we are, and our paint is That's what has made us the larg est paint concern in the world.
