Precisely what this medi cine shall be Is for a physician to determine, or frequently a reliable druRBlst will recommend a good "system builder." It Is always saf est to have a physician's prescrip tion, however. Lips that are dry or cracked, will disfigure the prettiest mouth, and as these conditions are usually tin; re imlt of Internal disorders, not Infre quently Indigestion, each woman should take some simple cure. There Is no better lip salve than that which a woman may make at homo from lard and chemically pure glycerine. It Is of the utmost Im portance that the Iiitter shall be pure. A spoonful rs the basis, nnd Into this Is benten as much freshly tried leaf lard as Is necessary to make a creamy consiMency. It Is not neccssury to melt the lard for the purpose, for the two will mix without trouble If the wont Is done slowly. Hefore putting away a couple of drops of any perfummed oil may lo beaten In. This lotion ehould bo rubbed on the lips at night and any time during the dny. Its efficacy may bo increased by bathing the lips before using with a solution of alum a tenspoonfut of the powder to ft pint or water. This mny be kept bottled a llttlo put on at a time. It thoroughly cleanses the surface and acts ns an astringent before the fats are ap plied. That painful condition which ex ists chronically with some persons -redness and soreness at one cornet of the mouth as n rule comes from an exces of acidity in the saliva. An excellent remedy Is to rinse the mouth four or five times a day with water, in which a tensK)onrul of bi carbonate of Boda haB been dis solved. At the same time the sore may be touched with a cream composed of 15 grains of oxide of zinc, a quar ter of an ounce of spermaceti oint ment, and a drop of ottar of roses, should the latter be desired for per fume. The zinc can be worked In to the ointment without melting the latter. Great care must be taken In the use of coloring matter on the ips, as unconsciously much mny be taken on the tongue, and should there bo any harmful Ingredient, Its effect would be felt. Spermaceti ointment is the basis of a harmless lotion. It Is composed of half an ounce of the spermaceti ointment and a couple of grains of powdered carmine. The latter Is worked into till ointment until the desired sbado is obtained. It may be perfumed !n any way one chooses, using tlio oil, not an extract, for the latter will not pilugis-. Klgnlllennce of Their Kelafion to Months, Days ami lank. In an interesting review on a book about precious stones a writer In The Observer tells us a good deal about Jewels. The "stones have months, weeks nnd days. January, the jacinth or garnet; February, the nmeth, yst; March, the bloodstone; April, the sapphire or diamond; May, the emerald; Juno, the agate. &c." The "lucky day" stones nre: day, the moonstone; Sunday ruby; Tuesday, pink jewelry -Mon-the must tbe day. be worn, and on Wednesday, emerald; Friday is amethyst for this stone Is a lucky one, and the legend goes that the amethyst was once a beautiful nymph, be loved by Bacchus, w ho was changed Into a gem. The ancients used to place amethysts In their drinking vessels as a preventive against in toxication, and the beautiful violet rays were supposed to be a source of vitality to wearers of the amethyst. Moilr for Till) Frock. It is conceded that tho all white frock Is the most practical and dain ty of cotton models for summer wear, hence its incomparable variety over other designs. Tho one-piece variety which means that skirt and blouse, though cut separately, are joined at tho waistline by some sort of waistband or girdle, the less con spicuous the better, leads the list. Neither the material nor trimmings of this frock can be considered ex pensive. One might readily fashion it at a cost of five dollars, or very little more, using a good quality of Irish lawn and Imitation Valen ciennes lace. mm i i n 1 V MODEL FOR TUB FUOCK. The skirt has two ruffles trimmed with embroidery, which can bo done y tho wearer or omitted without de tracting from the daintiness of the modi. Or embroidery frilling might be used If ono cared to go to the extra expense. The neck has a little Capucln yoke and collar of embroidery, tl)e latter nr.ished with a Jabot or Wet net em broidered with dainty blue threads. The sleeves are three-quarter length, being formed of embroidery and the Irish lawn Inset with inser tions of Valenciennes. CASTOR I A lor Infants and Children.
