Frogs are on the jump, and shad are getting along swimmingly. Spring is here, but the season for gauze underwear is in the distant future vet. The temperate weather has largely increased the number of bicyclists on the streets. Hydrophobia still creates some excitement in this locality. The Gideon sisters' dog had an attack of rabies. Being tied however, he did no damage. A neighbor being sent for, shot the dog. A month or more a0 . two of W. S. Laubach's cows were supposed to have been bitten by a mad dog, that came through this place ; but no signs of rabies appeared until last week when one of them became mad and had to be killed. Last Sunday was a warm day, some what like spring. Farming is considerably backward while politics is somewhat in advance. S. M. Gibbons of this place moved to Harvey ville last Monday. He is a bachelor and a first rate mark for leap year girls. Judge Krickbaum made a business trip to Bloomsburg last week. Muddy roads are quite common up here. Hon. James McIIenry ofCambra, has retired from active business. lie was a merchant all his life. There has been so much moving this spring that we scarcely know who our neighbors are. Well, not so bad just right here. We are very much indisposed in politics. We are perfectly willing that all the other fellows get it if they can. The political prophets predict a political cyclone in Columbia county this fall. It is quite possible that it may be side-tracked however. We are for sound money, sound government, sound principles and a sound republican threshing this fall, and better times. Hurrah. . The prevailing epidemic, at present is swing fever. Dr. Evans is making arrangements for laying a pavement along his pro perty on Jefferson street. Don't fail to see the Brownie Band with Drum Major Jim at the Opera House, Tuesday evening, April 21st. Mrs. Sarah, wife of Aaron Patter son died at her home in Orange town ship last Friday night. The funeral services were held from her late resi dence last Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Now since spring is upon us, and the man who makes a garden and keeps hens, is beginning to worry and agitate over the problem as to how to keep them separate. W. E. Johnson, whilst engaged at the Keg Factory at Rupert last Satur day morning, had his hand caught in the machinery and two fingers were cut off. He is a son-in-law of the owner, Mr. W. M. Monroe. The popularity of the American damper regulator is evidenced by the increasing number of orders the com pany is receiving. They have recently placed one in the Citizens' Electric Light Company's plant at William-sport. Look at the people you pass on the street. Their faces tell the story of their lives, iiiey ten we story of penury or plenty, of re finement or coarseness, of health or disease. Three-fourths of these people are not "exactly well." They are flot all " sick," perhaps, but many of them are, and few are quite hale and hearty. Consumption has set it stamp of pallor and ema ciation on many of them. The Commissioners sold the old wooden files which were taken from the Register and Recorder's office, last Saturday afternoon. In the case of the Farmers National Bank vs. Neal, the motion to quash the proceedings was argued. The Court took the papers and will render a decision to-morrow.
