Clovoland has recently bidden god speed to one of her earnest Endeavorers, Hiss Schauffler, who has gone to Syria as a missionary. The missionary spirit is hors by inheritanoo, the names of both her father and her grandfather being conspicuous in the history of modern missions, und her father being now an apostle to tho Bohemians in the city of Cleveland. The Endeavor cause is greatly honored by these its missionary daughters. The general aspect of tho work in tho District of Columbia is decidedly en couraging. Several now societies have been recently formed, and everything seems to point to the formation of others iu the near future. Thero can be, how ever, no great increase in the number of societies for the reason that nearly every evangelical church in the district haa al ready a society of Christian Endeavor. When tho Christian Endeavor society was founded only three ofllcers were chosen a president, vice president and secretary. Thero were three committees appointed a prayer mooting, a social and a lookout committee. Granville Stevens, now of John Wanamaker's es tablishment in Philadelphia, was the first president. A junior society near Boston got much good lately out of this little contest. The superintendent gave each junior a penny. They were to spend them in the best ,way8 they could think ofaud at the iiext meeting they wore to toll how they spent the money. Tho juniors would then vote to decide which was tho best .way to use the penny, and a little prize was to be given to the best. Tho prize for the best good deed was given to a jun ior who with her penny bribed a little girl to go to the junior prayer meeting. ttK'XLmw,l,lu'lllJ'"wiwOTiranlifwnuwijmuM ooc( bread y jbife- vxwd bastv; but h's yfbrrvach.
