Mr. S. E. Carmichaol, a prominent citizen of Henrietta, Texai, writes : wish to tell you what Swift's Specific has done for my wife, Several years ago there appeared a splotch on the corner of her nose which gradually increased in size, and became quite painful ; on washing her lace it would frequently bleed. I he doctors called it cancer, and advised that it be removed by knife or burn ing, stating that it never would do to neglect it. My wife refused to have it cut or burned, but at the same time it continued to grow worse. After a time she commenced taking S. S. S., which effected an entire cure. She used a half dozen small sized bottles. We both think there is no medicine in Ihe world that will equal Swift's Speci fic, and we would like for all sufferer's to know the benefit she has received from it." S. S. An Old Man's Silly Notion- A silly superstitious old man in Wil liamsport, has applied to the Sheriff of Lycoming county for the rope with which Wade the murderer was hanged some years ago. He is imbued with the superstitious idea that if i.e can get it and tie it around his wife's neck for a time it will cure her of fits of which she is a victim. Milton Rec ord. The old man is right. If lie will tie the other end of the rope high enough she will never have another fit. EVANSVILLE AND BERWICK. The following were elected in Ber wick township: Supervisors, Wm. Lamon, A. F. Marti; Constable, Geo W. Hostler; Overseer of the poor, II. J. Edwards; School Directors, Mjwman Bower, Clem Bower: Assessor. Wm. Lamon ; Tax Collector, A. B. Croop ; Auditor, R. H. Sitler; Town Clerk, Hcadly Suit; Judge of Elec tions, S. E. Moyer ; Inspectors, S. J. Mover, D. W. Mart7. Philip Spooney came within two votes of being elected, his was a good run, and he is a popular man. Mr. Wm. Lamon has been well known in this section for many years. His re turn to the offices of Supervisor and Assessor is the very best practical ev! dence of his intelligence, and efficien cy. This community is satisfied thit no better or more capable man could be selected or retained in office. C. II. Zender and wife of Berwick have returned from their Pacific Coast trip. B. C. Gilroy of PI iladelphia is visiting friends in Berwick. Ed Hart man has received a handsome Eup honium horn from the Berwick Cornet Band. The revival at Evansville still con tinues in interest. Will the new members of the town Council pledge their interest in having electric lights in Berwick. Fred Richardson has left for Michigan to locate. Mrs. Hannah Larisli has been visiting Philadelphia. Our Literary Society will have some thing great on March 4th. On the 3d there will be a moral entertainment that will be attractive in Y. M. C. A. Hall. Constable Mc Henry says that on election day five persons voted for him whose ages combined make 400 years. The constable is not half that old. Geo. Clemens has gone into the tonsorial business for himself at St. Charles. Good for George. Borough election in Berwick was hotly contested. The Salvation Army Natioral Gua d Band of New York City are in Ber wick. Somebody has left a horse standing on the street for a week without food or water. The Phi Deltas now 27 members, have begun their literary work. Vice Principal Garr, Marie Brock -ay and H. C. Hinkle, 92 are a committee on program. Something good may be expected from our High School. Our schools are getting along first rate. The time will soon be here when our girls and boys will receive a good edu cation without going from home. Why shouldn't Berwick have a first class high school equal to any in the state. Prof. Richardson is a finelly educated gentleman, and is universaly popular in and out of the schools. Berwick has never been favored with a teacher superior to him. Our schools are in the ascendency and we hope they will continue to progress till the curriculum will be ample to give a scientific and classical education compa-ing favor ably w ith our academies and seminar ies elsewhere. A number of Miss Bessie Clewell's school mates made a birth day party for her recently. Many fine presents were given and refreshments enjoyed- The Berwick Cornet Band gave a pleasing entertainment in the Opera House lately. This is one of the best bands of the state. I had the pleasure to hear Mr. E. J. Bowman of Berwick deliver an oration on the evening 22nd of Feb. Subject "Washington and our Country". Mud dy roads and side walks prevented many from attending. The house was pretty well filled. Mr. Bowman is an excellent orator and gave us a first class oration. He expects to talk at Evansville in the near future. Go one and all to hear him. More anon.
