Mr. Jacob Colo of Iola was killed sud denly Sunday last by tho accidental dis charge of a gun In his own hands. Tho evening bafore ho called upon a tick cbild of Henry Meyers, and tho child expressed a desire to havo a rabbit, saying ho thought he could cat a rabbit. Mr. Cole replied that ho would try and shoot him ono even if It was Sunday. He started In pursuit of a rabbit, and after In tha woods some time, ho met four other gunners, one of whom was Clark Thomas. Mr. Colo was stand ing upon a Btump, and Mr. Thomas about fifteen feet from him Suddenly Col e's gun discharged, and Thomas looking about saw him fall from tho stump. An exami nation snowed that tho contents ot the gun entered ono sldo of tho mouth and plough ed its way through the cheek and out ot tho top ot his head. Last Tuesday a week David Yost, Esq., of Van Camp was very unfortunate, getting his leg both broken and out ot placo. The accident oc curred during tho raising ot his son George's blacksmith shop at Bendertown. Several others wero less severely injured. When quito a young man, David and Wil liam Kauft wero felling trees on a "now ground, when ono was inclined to fall in a contrary direction, David placed his axe against thu tree, pushing with all his might and tho trco yielding to;his efforts, ho im pulsively stepped forward Just as William brought a full and sweeping stroke with his axe, cutting the former's leg off just be low the knee. Nothing held it but a little skin, and his leg dangled about as they carried him to the house. Anyone, never having seen the scar, nor knowing of the circumstance would say upon sight, that bis leg was every whit cut off. With great efforts it was again healed without ampu tation.
