Fire men, yeRterday, in a small boat, were chased as far as Bridesburg by the Dela ware Harbor Police. The men got out at that place and made their escape, and the boat, being captnred, was fonnd to contain a complete outfit of burglars' tools. There is another row at the Almshouse about the attendance of female students at the unrgical clinics. An impostor calling himself "night in spector" tried to swindle a lady on Urown street by endeavoring to obtain a . sum of money from her on the plea that a package of poods on the wharf, addressed to her, would be sent to the bonded warehouse if she did not hand out the cash. Of courso the story was a fabrication. Kev. E. I). Harper was yesterday Installed pastor of the North Broad Street Presbyterian Church, at Broad and Green streets. The Supreme Lodge of Knights of Fythias closed its session on Saturday last. The next aesKion will be held at Baltimore in April, 1872. An elfborntcly bound album, containing the portraits of the omployes of the different departments of the Cnstom House, was on (Saturday night last presented to Hon. Henry I). Moore as a testamonial of their apprecia tion, etc. Domestic Affairs. Another explosion of nitro-glycerine has occurred at the Hoosac Tunnel, killing four men. The elevated railway, la New York city, was sold on Saturday, by the sheriff, to satisfy creditors. Ballentine's malt-house at Newark, New Jersey, was burned yesterday afternoon, in volving a loss of f 00,000 and the life of the foreman. A committee of colored men waited on the Mayor of Cincinnati, on Saturday, and asked that some of their race be placed upon the police force of that city. The Mayor ap pointed four colored men as station-keepers as the beginning of the experiment. On Saturday evening Earl De Grey was 'at home" at the quarters of tho English High Commission, and it was one of the largest receptions that ever took place in Washington. The most distinguished per sons in the city were present with their ladies, and the band which was present played alternately the national airs of both coun tries. Taken as a whole the affair evinced the utmost cordiality between the represent atives of this country and Great Britain, and led to the belief that the knotty points exist ing between the two countries will soon be unravelled to the entire satisfaction of each. Foreign Affairs. It is announced that Menotti Garibaldi will at once retnrn to Italy. A mutiny is reported to have occurred among the Communist troops. Fort Valerien kept up a steady fire during Saturday and yesterday. General Cluseret claims to have repulsed tne ersauies army at all points. The French Assembly has passed a law providing for the payment of rentes. Another insurgent demonstration has been made and defeated at Marseilles. The avenues of Paris are now constantly filled with wagons containing wounded men. General Ducrot has arrived at Versailles with twenty thousand men of the late Impe rial army. Five hundred million franca' worth of property has been destroyed in Paris within the past few days. The Munieippl Council of Havre ha3 de puted three members to mediate between Paris and Versailles. General Cluseret offered his resignation, as the Communists have run into excesses, but it was not accepted. The Princess Louise, accompanied by her husband, the Marquis of Lorne, has arrived at Florence, Italy. There is no truth in the rumors of a ministerial modification and supplementary election to the National Assembly. The Commune is making immense pre parations for defending the capital, in the way of embankments and barricades. Deputy Castcllar announces that he will introduce a motion in the Cortes demanding the dethronement of King Amadeus. The Communists complain of raalad ministration of the War Office, and aoouse General Cluseret of aiming at military dic tatorship. The representatives of the oommerce and industry of Paris are to make a fresh h France. It is supposed that the Versailles Gov ernment intend to complete the investment of Paris, and to cut off all communication 1 with the exterior. The Austrian Beiohsrath has, by the adoption of a resolution, demanded of the Government the introduction of the promised bill in relation to Church and State.
