The body of the carriage caught upon the platform, and the bort-e still being; pushed back, the carriage was completely overturned, and Mr. Copper was thrown out. Two Mill Boya Killed by too Falling la Cve. of a At a quarter-past 12 o'clock, Tuesday, two little sons of Bouey and Amelia Brunell, iienry, ln hit eighth, and James Thomas, la his sixth year, were touud crushed and smothered under an old deserted cave in the shore bank, south of the Wick ford Academy, which the heavy rains had eauced to fall In. The old cave was a short distance from their home, and the children bad been there one or two days before to play. Tuerday morning, be fore going to his work, their father forbade the bojs going there again, and charged their older brother. Joseph, in his tenth year, to watch them. At 9 o'clock Joseph was sent for the doctor, to attend his sick mother, and when he returned the yonnger boys were winning. At balf-patt 11 o'clock Joseph discovered that the cave had fallen in, and told hla father, on hi return at noon, that he feared h'.s brothers were under It. Tl distressed father secured the assistance of two of his neighbors, and soon dug out the boales and took tbetn to bis house, where the doctor examined them, but life was extinct. The neck of James was broken by the falling timber. The unfortunate lads were then pre lured for the grave, and were interred on Wed nesday in' Kliu tirove Cemetery J'roevl.nve Journal, March i. MOSTMARTRK. stketrk f the nn,rter mt Ik Parlalas) rrtrOalaia. Montmartre derives Its name from Mom Martin, because the Romans built a temple tbereon In honor of Mars. The hill itself is ttetween three and four hundred feet above the level of the Seine, commanding an excellent view of Paris, and also furnishing an eligible location for the batteries of a forelga or domestla enemy besieging the capital. Numerous jrypsntn quarries are opened here, and the l.ttle village, with its groups of windmills, which crown the summit of the acclivity, present! n pleasing and picturesque appearance to the approaching tra veller. The church formerly belonginir to the Abbey of Montmartre was founded by Louis VI In tho year nuu, ana is etui much visited ry aevotn pilgrims, more especially during September. Tho cemetery of Montmartre is an objc.t of con siderable interest, being the first one esta lished after the suppression of burial places In the city, and was called originally Champ du Reims. Tho spot was once a gypsum quarry, and the broken character of the ground adds much to Its beauty. The total area, including recent additions, is fifty-four acres. A lofty stone cross stands near the gateway, and behind It. on a gentle eminence, are many tastef-il monuments belonging to prominent aristocratic lammes. On the other side of this eminence, and divided from the rest bv a wall, is the Jewish cemetery; beyond which, to the right, is a beau- titul chapel in the Byzantine style of architec ture, erected to the memory of the Countess l'otocka. A prominent feature of the place is a stone obelifek surmounted by a cross, whichJ marks the grave of a Duchess de Montmorency. The fount commune, or common graves, are near the further boundary of the enclosure. Electric belli communicate through subterranean pipes from the most distant parts of the ceme tery with the central olllce, so that the superin tendent may, by touching a key, summon any of bis assistants to attend? upon funerals as tuey arrive. The Reading Eanle says: Yesterday morning about 0) o'clock an attempt was made by a woman to steal a baby boy, a son of Mr. Charles Fisher, machinist, who resides in Sixth street, above Franklin. It seems that Mrs. Fisher went into the back yard to draw some water, leaving ber babe lying In a cradlo in tho (rout room, ond while she was absent the gypsy entered the front door, which had been left unlocked, took the cradle quilt and placed It In her basket and was in the act of placfng the babe in the same, when the mother entered. She took the child from the gypsy, and ordered her to leave, but was too much frightened to give the alarm and have the woman arrested. As an excuse, the gypsy said she bnd taken the child up to look at it, and poured forth upon Mrs. i isber the vilest of epithets before leaving the house. When the attempted abduction became known at the depot, where Mr. Fisher works, consider able excitement was caused, and tor a time it looked as if some of the employes would visit the? gypsy band, and annihilate them. The band has been encamped at neiner s spring tor several days past, and the woman who thus at tempted to make desolate the fireside of one of our citizens should be brought to justice at once.
