THE DAILY EVENING TELEGRAPH PHILADELPHIA, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1870. 6 niTSICAXt AWD Pit ASIATIC. Ftnilimn Rerbach "Adrlrnae Lecanrreur." Scribe's play of Adrienne Lecouvreur, which was performed last evening at the Academy of Music, possesses many advantages oyer either of the places in which Madame Seebach had previously Appeared. It is not a rehash of romebody else's ideas, like the adaptation of Jane Eyre, and it is not a poem like Mary Stuart, but it is an acting play, written expressly Kith a view to stage representation, and in its characters, its plot, and its striking situations the most accomplished French dramatist of the day has shown his knowledge of the requirements of stage effect in an unmistakable manner. Adrienne Lecouvreur has much of the breadth of melodrama, and while it scarcely rises to the dignity of a legitimate tragedy, it is distinguished by a delicacy of treatment that approaches the higher forms of art, and the title role especially, with its varying emotions, is one that is admi rably suited for the exhibition of the powers of such an artist as Madamo Ssebach. The per sonation of "Adrienne" by this actress last night was in every respect a rarely beautiful performance, and the tonderncss and gruce of the intorvlew between "Adrienne" and "Mau rice" in the green-room were only surpassed by the tragic intensity of the scene where the actress, in her recitation of a passage from Phadre, hurls definanco at her rival, and in the ead but beautiful ending of the play, where 'Adrienne," dying from the effects ot the poi oned flowers that have been sent her by the "Princes?," finds her lover at her feet, and expires happy in the knowledge that he has been true to her from first to last. Madame Seebach was admirably supported by her company, the performances of Mid'ile Veneta as the "Princess" and Mr. Dombrowski ns "Maurice" in particular being up to a very high standard of excellence. The Vltr AmiiNcnicnta. At Tni: Chesnut Mr. Frank Drew is draw ing full houses, and his fine comic talents appear to be as highly appreciated as they ever were. This evening he will appear as "Dr. O'Toolc" in the Irish Tutor, as "Tactic" in Acting Mad, and as "Cainille" in a travesty of the drama of that name. At the Academy op Mr sic Madame Seebach will personate "Louisa Miller" in Schiller's Intrigue and Love (Kabale und Licbe), and will recite Schiller's "Song of the Bell." To-morrow evening Madame Seebach will personate "Marguerite" iu Goethe's tragedy of Faust, and at the matinee on Saturday she will appear as "Jane Eyre." At the Walnut Mr. J. D. Stockton's comedy of Fox and Goose will be performed for the last time this evening. Nicholas A'iokleby will bo given as an afterpiece. At the Akcii liosedale will be repeated this evening. Adam Fonnr-Aron's Cmcrs and Menagehie will exhibit this afternoon and evening at the corner of Broad and Wallace streets. At the American a variety entertainment will be given this evening. At Dui'HEz it Benedict's Opeiia House a great bill of attractions will bo presented this evening, In which the entire troupe of fourteen performers will appear.
