THIS iWOKMNu'rt DESPATCHES. r-ARTICULABS OF THE CAPTURE OP SAARBRUCK IRENCH AND TRUSSIAN ACCOUNTS THE TER RIBLE MITRAILLETJR BIO NAP AND LITTLE NAP. Paris, Aug. 3. French journals this room ing publish the following accounts of the Saarbruck affair: Metz, Aug. 2. The French troops passed the frontier at 11 o'clock. They instantly en countered the Prussians strongly posted on the heights commanding Saarbruck, which were carried by a few battalions. The cap ture of the town instantly followed, the artil lery compelling the Prussians to evacuate it in great haste. General Frossard, with one division, defeated three divisions of tho enemy. Buildings in Saarbruck caught fire from the French artillery and half of tho town was destroyed. Mitrailleurs were used for the first time, and are reported to have worked wonders. The Emperor, on his return to Metz, after the battle, Bent the following telegraphic des patch to the Empress: "Louis has received his baptism of fire. He was admirably cool and little impressed. A division of Frossnrd's command carried the heights overlooking tho Saar. The Prussians made a brief resistance. Louis and I were in front, where bullets fell about us. Louis keeps a ball that he picked up. The soldiers wept at his tranquillity. We lost an officer and ten men. Napoleon." Metz was illuminated in honor of the vic tory. After the retreat of the Prussians, the French did not occupy the place. Metz, Aug. 3. Yesterday, when the heights of Saarbruck wore occupied, a battery of Mitrailleurs played upon the enemy's posi tion, in presence of the Emperor and Prince Imperial. The Emperor ordered the officer in charge not to fire unless it was necessary, as tbe i'russians were niuuen, but attenvards a detachment of the enemy, seen near the rail way, at a distance of 1000 metres, was fired at, and left half their number on the field. A second detachment met the same fate, after which the enemy fearod to appear. Prisouers taken confess to the superiority of the French guns. Paris, Aug. 6. Tne mgaro claims that tne victory at Saarbruck was of great importance. The Emperor wished to gain possession of Saarbruck because it commandj tho valley of the Saar ana tne railway to Treves. Berlin, Aug. 3. via London. The follow ing official despatch is published: Yesterday small detachment stationed at aaarbruoH was attacked by tnree l rencu divisions. After a sharp action the position was aban doned, tbe Prussians falling back on their supports. The loss was trilling. Prisoners report the arrival of the French Emperor on the banks of the Saar, at 11 o'clock in the morning. LATER THE FRENCH CLAIM TO HAVE CAPTURED THREE THOUSAND PRISONERS REPORTED NAVAL BATTLE. Paris, Aug. 3. Three divisions of the French army under ueneral Uataille captured the town of Saarbruck and took 5000 prisoners. The new cannon, the Mitrailleur, did wonders. A ball from the Prussian cannon fell near the Prince Imperial. The Chassepots carried 1300 yards, and the Mitrailleur over 2000 yards. A combat is reported on tne xfaitic, dur ing which two Prussian gunboats were taken. J. be French army is advancing. ' ANOTHER ACCOUNT THE AFFAIR AT SAARBRUCK OF NO CONSEQUENCE. - London. Ane. 3. rSDecial to the New York Tribune. The engagement at Saar. brack was between a small detachment form ing the Prussian rear guard and three divi sions or tne r rencn lniantry, supporting twenty-three guns. The affair was of slight importance. I In spite of the apparent importance of the railway connections at Saarbruck, the Prus sians have never seriously prepared to de fend it, and their movements are to be henceforth independent of Saarbruck.
