The party consists of White Swan, agcdthirty-twoj Tour Bears, aged thirty-five; Pretty Bear, aged forty-one; Black Toma hawk, aged thirty; Red Feather andRunning Bull; all are chiefs except l'retty Bear and Black Tomahawk. A regular stated meeting of the Fair mount Tark Commission was held on Satur day afternoon, President McMichael in the chair. The monthly reports of the Chief En gineer and CRDtain Cha9tean."of tha Oimrrl. )were read and referred. The Committee of Folice were instructed to prepare regula tions in reference to the driving of cattle over Girard Avenue Bridge. A resolution was passed requesting Councils to designate the location of a new reservoir in the Eastern Park. On Saturday afternoon last three coupons were presented to the clerk in the upper office of the United States Sub-treasury at the Custom House, and "gold checks" of the amount of each, issued thereon. A little while after two of these checks were pre sented at the counter below, having been previously altered, one to $1200, and the other to $ 1320, and paid. ' This was dis covered in a short time when the clerk up Btairs sent his memorandum below. A third check altered to 1230 soon followed, when the presenter was arrested and immediately taken before United States Commissioner Biddle for a hearing. Before the commis sioner tne prisoner gave the name of Daniel M. Johnson. He was held in $10,000 for a further hearing on Thursday next. Domestic Affairs. Gold closed on Saturday at 112 J. In New Brunswick and Nova Scotia the crops have been injured by long-continued drought. Much anxiety is felt at Laramie concern ing the fate of the Big Horn expedition. When last heard of it was beyond the reach of friends, and among intensely hostile In dians. -Senator Cameron explains his conduct in relation to the income tax vote in the Senate by stating that he paired off, and that there fore his vote would not have altered the result. In the United States Senate on Saturday, after the close of our report, the Army Ap propriation bill was passed, with some of the principal features of Mr. Wilson's bill, re cently tabled, as amendments. The evening session was devoted to the consideration of the San Francisco and Australian Steamship bill. In the nouse, the conference report on the Legislative appropriations was agreed to. A billwas introduced by Mr. Negley, of Penn sylvania, for the establishment of a European and Chinese steamship line. On Saturday the President sent to the Senate a large number of documents rela tive to seizures of American vessels and im prisonment and execution of American citizens in Cuba. The names are given of nine persons, said to be citizens of the United States, who were executed without proper trial, and of a number of others, also citizens of the United States, whose properties were confiscated' or embargoed, or who were unlawfully imprisoned. A list of decrees of the Spanish authorities was also transmitted under which the execu tions, imprisonments, etc., were made. Cor respondence between Secretary Fish and Senor Roberts, the Spanish Minister, rela tive to these matters is also given, in which the Secretary called the attention of the I Spanish authorities to the matter, and ex- VinrAKRA fViA hrtnn that tViA Snaninh PlnvArn. r - -i i ment would make reparation. So far as those executed are concerned, their execution has left a claim against Spaia for the amount of injury done. It is also hoped that the pro perty taken from citizens of the United States will be restored, and those who have been imprisoned will be released and granted an immediate trial. It is hoped also that future violations of the treaty of 1705 will be avoided. On June 24 Secretary Fish enclosed this note to General Sickles, instructing him to bring the subject to the notice of the KnaniKh Government. jk Foreign Affair. Military preparations were going on all last night in Paris. If the candidature of Hohenzollern ia not withdrawn within the next twenty-four hours the French ministers will be recallei from Berlin and Madrid, and war declared. The conduct of !n fnrrinnr an lSSUa and rofnuinrr in ,X " O - leave tne queauou u wo mnuo iu iun ojmmsu people is Btrongly condemned by all Europe, and Prussia's calm and dignfied position is approved. . . .. Tne negotiations una ana lu are reported to be unsatisfactory. Prussia, declaring her innocence of mrigne, refuses to interfere with the candidaoyof Hohenzol lern, on the ground that Bhe ha neither the right nor the inclination to dictte to Spain or to Prince Leopold. THE FBENCH NAVY PREPARING FOB OSTTUTIES. Toulon, July 9. The followina, Bhips, now lying in this harbor, are r6cerng arma ments and being put in a condition imme diate action in case of war: bemai0re, in trepide, Charlemagne, Magellan, .anama, and Mavenne. Count Louis EdouaiBouck Willaumez, vice-admiral, will be coni der. in-cbief of the Imperial navy, witnjaron Clement de la Ronciere Le Noupy as clf of Btaff. Sailore absent from their post or ur. lonchhave not yet been recalled, kt,ve received orders to hold themselv. ti. sees for duty. FBANCS NOT TO ABANDON HER POSITION. Fabib, July 9. At the meeting of the di- Elomatio corps in this city, last evening, the uke de Gramont, who was present, said that, while remaining within the limits of moderation, France would abandon none of her legitimate pretensions. He hoped that the collective efforts of the great powers of Europe would preserve the peace, but France had decided not to depart from the line of conduct traced at first. THE PRUSSIAN GOVERNMENT'S ANSWER TO THE NOTE OP THE FRENCH MINISTRY THE RETLV NOT SATISFACTORY. Paris, July 9 0 P. M. There seems to be no doubt that the Government is in receipt of the long-expected answer from the Prus sian Government on the Bubject of the Spa nish throne difficulty. It is intimated in well-informed circles that in that answer Prussia makes the following points: First. Disclaiming all participation in the candida ture of Prince Hohenzollern. Second. That the Prince of Hohenzollern is not even a relative of the royal family of Prussia. And, third, That General Prim negotiated with the Prince of Hohenzollern, and he must be responsible and not Prussia.. It is almost certain that this answer is not satisfactory to France, and that the Duke Gramont had forwarded another despatch to Berlin. MOVEMENTS OF THE FRENCH ARMY. Paris, July 98 P. M. Two divisions of the army of Paris have been ordered to go to Chalons. NAVAL MOVEMENTS THE FRENCH ARMY TO MOVE ON THE RHINE ON TUESDAY. Paris, July 911 P. M. The officers of the French Mediterranean squadron have received orders to be in the Bay of Palermo by Sunday, July 10, to receive instructions. The Journal this evening says, if the silence of Trussia is prolonged until Monday, there will be a movement of French troops to the Rhine on Tuesday. DENMARK ANXIOUS TO STRIKE A BLOW AT HER OLD ENEMY. La Tatrie says the declaration of the Duke of Gramont in the Corps Legislatif produced a most profound sensation in Denmark. The troops in camp at Holte and the garrison at Veborg had a grand illumination in honor of the event. THE SITUATION IN BERLIN. Berlin, July 9. The report which has been widely circulated for the past day or two that Baron Werther, the Prussian ambas sador at Paris, had been recalled, is not true. In official circles here the situation is thought to be free from danger. Von Bismarck has neither assisted nor advised Spain in the Hohenzollern matter, and Napoleon's attempt to hold him to any responsibility is therefore regarded as a mere pretext. ITALY SUPPORTING FRANCE. Florence, July 9. The press of Italy, offi cial and national, back France on the ques tion at issue with Prussia. WARLIKE PREPARATIONS. Taris, July 9. Circulars have been issued recalling to their commands all officers and soldiers who are absent on furlough. Large quantities of powder and war stores of all kinds are being conveyed to strongholds on the Eastern frontier. The Government authorities of France have in their possession plans of all the fortresses, roads, canals, and other public works in Prussia. The Govern ment has taken measures to put the Garde Nationale and Garde Mobile on a war footing. Agents of the French Government are now in Hungary purchasing horses and hay for the cavalry service. PRUSSIA INDIFFERENT REGARDING THE ELECTION OF PRINCE LEOPOLD TO THE SPANISH THRONE. Berlin, July 10. Military men here do not appear to be excited about the Spanish im broglio, and it is not thought possible that war will result from it. The Prussian Cross Qazctte, Ministerial organ, disapproves of the Duke of Gramont's declaration in the French Chamber, and says he must know, as every one does, that the King of Prussia and heads of the confederation are all indifferent to the elevation of Prince Leopold to the Spanish throne, and had no right, in the absence of evidence, to charge another power with a dis position to disturb wantonly the European equilibrium. The Prince of Hohenzollern is a free agent, and may or may not accept the crown, but his decision will not affect Prus Bian neutrality. MARINE TELEGRAPH. For additional Marin Netea see firat Pag.
