William Bhemeld, eleven years old, re Hiding at No. 902 Steward street, was run over by a coal car, on Washington avenue, yesterday, and had one of his feet crushed, lie was admitted into the hofipital. Catharine Boyles, remding back of No. 1343 Uermantown avenue, was severely burned about the neck, arms, and legs yester day afternoon, by the explosion of a coal oil lamp. Policeman Boyles, in endeavoring to extinguish the flames, bad one of his hands badly burned. It will be a source of extreme regret to the community generally to learn that Judge M. It. Thayer is still suffering from the very serious attack of inflammatory rheumatism with which he was seized last December. In deed, it is feared that such is the severity of bis affliction and the shattered state of his system, that he will be nnable to resume his seat on the bench. The following proposals for building a public schoolhonse on a lot of ground situate on Noble street, below Sixth, Twelfth ward, were made yesterday afternoon: Thomas ' McCarty, $31'475; Deoker Miller, $34,000; Charles C. The report of the Grand Treasurer showed that $114(1 had been sent to Worcester, Mass., to sustain the men while on a strike. On Monday afternoon last United States Revenue Officers Haas and Herr, accompanied by Deputy Marshals Bernard and Ridgway, visited the Richmond districts for the pur pose of making a haul among the distillers. Their presence in the district having become known while they were operating in the first place destroying nine hogsheads, the news of their action spread like wildfire. No arrests were made, all the proprietors having de camped. William, Ann, Somerset, and other streets, together with a number of open lots, Tmmhfmnrr from twentv to thirtv. were vioited, and twenty-five- hogsheads of mash were destroyed. A meeting of the stockholders of the Mercantile Library Company was held last night at the southwest corner Broad and Walnut streets. Its object was to take action in reference to the Board of Management not complying with the resolutions directing the opening of the library on Sunday. Mr. Jos. Megary presided, and Mr. Thomas F. Blake- more acted as secretary. Resolutions creating a committee of seven to ascertain the rights of the company, and to recommend the proper proceeding to enforoe them, and that the meeting reassemble at the call of the commit tee in the lecture-room of the library build ing, were adopted. The Funding bill met with some rough treatment in the House yesterday, but it was finally referred to the consideration of the Ways and Means Committee. A report was current in Washington last evening that the House Foreign Relations Committee had voted to recommend the recognition of the Cuban revolutionists. A stranger attempted yesterday to force his way iuto an apartment in the National Capitol reserved f jr the use of Senators, as saulted the officers, and had to be removed bodily by the polioe.
