Dear Sir: Since my October circular was issued suDsianuai progress nag oeen maae in this, the new city of Lake Superior. Favored by comparatively mild weather, and but four inches oi snow uavmg iaiicn, uuuaing nas pro gressed to a considerable extent. Th following will show what actual improvements were made during the raontn: On Superior street, four stores and one dwel ling house; First street, two dwellings; Second street, one dwelling, one church: Third street. one dwelling; Lake avenue, one dwelling; First avenue east, two dwellings, one store; Second avenue cast, two aweuiugs. The Union Elevator and Improvement Com panv, organized in Philadelphia with a capital or $duw, uuu, uave let com rue is tor iue iouuaa tion ot their first grain elevator at this point, It is to havo a capacity of 300.000 bushels of wheat, ana will cost miio.uuu. iouudation to be completed May 1, and the entire building August 1, 1870. Tho Duluth Dwelt Company, orgaalzed at this ulace with a capital of ;;o,000, are now build lug a wharf four hundred feet long and thirty wide, in tho outer harbor, and on the St. Louis river, twenty-live miles above us, tho Great Western Mining Company aro erecting build ings for tho accommodation of workmen at their slate quarries. In May next a large, force will be employed in developing that important . From a personal Inspection of tho line I am able to state that nine-tenths of tho railroad wnrk between Duluth and Fond-du-lac, some eighteen miles, la done; rails are now being laid oud so mucn or iue roan win ue nnisueu uy New Year's. This progress enables workmen to bo transferred to tho lino ubovo Foud-du-lac, and nearly ensures the completion of our Lake Supcrloraud Mississippi Railroad in good season next summer. Tulegraphlc couimunievtion with tho otitor world Biid tho opening of the comfortable 'Bay View House," make our new city more pleasant nd attractive to strangers, while the Duluth Library Association's tiuu .reading room and propound rourso of lectures add to the attrac tions which induce many to remain. The new Presbyterian church is also well advanced; it Is to be built partly of brick, forty-four by seventy feet in size, with a spire one hundred feet high, and its auditorium will nccommodato three hundred and fifty persons. Transactions In real cstato have been nume rous. Hales are reported of lots on Superior street at about sixty dollars per foot; on First street at eighteen, on Second at ten, on Third at seven, and on Minnesota Point at seven dollars and a half. In answer to many inquiries I w ill state that the ordinary size of lots in the First Division is fifty by ono hundred and forty feet; on Minne sota Point, forty by ono hundred, but lots near corners are frequently smaller by reason of sub divisions made to front on tho avenues.
