It was given in his honor by the Minnesota Club, which is composed of many of the leading citizens, and was emi nently successful. Robert Hecker, the young man who re ported thnt he was drugged, robbed, and thrown overboard from the steamer Old Colony, has reached Boston, and his trust worthiness is vouched for by a gentleman of that city, who says he served as Hospital Steward with Professor Burt Green Wilder, of Cornell University, when the latter was bur geon of tho iVth Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers, and that it was to see him in re lation to a claim for back pay that ho made the journey which came so near costing him his life. The Richmond Dixptttci of Tuesday con tains a poem, deprecating the secession of the South, sent to its editor by tne late Mrs. Sigourney in February, 18(51. The fate of tho hour had been too well decided at that time, the editor says, to render the publica tion of the poem advisable; and ho adds: "Had the 'ten Governors' been chained in some dungeon for the detention of evil spirits, as they ought to have been, for the welfare of mankind, and had Virginia, Mr. Lincoln, and Mr. Crittenden boon intrusted with tho settlement of tho dispute, tho Union would never have been disrupted, and the ardent hopes of the lamented poetess would have been realized." The Chicago Advance has an elaborate plan for the resumption of specie payments two years and five months henoo, prepared by General Nettleton and indorsed by Jay Cooke, which has been thus summarized: It proposes -to withdraw 100,000,01)0 of greenbacks, and give the national banks of the West, South, and Pacific coast authority to issue that amount. There will then be .-C.OOO.OOO greenbacks, and $40,00l),0)) national bank notes in circulation, which are to be kept legal tender, as now, but shall be redeemed in gold when presented, tho greenbacks in New York and the bank notes each at its own bank. Meantiina the Government is to hoard gold, issue compound interest notes, and, if necessary, make a small gold loan in Europe. After resuming specie payments to the extent indicated, the Government bonds are to be exchanged for longer oonas at a lower rate of interest.
