The Indians are making trouble in Kansas, on the. extreme frontier ot the settlements. A party of about !&i Cheyenne attacked a small unprotected settle ment on the Saline river, about forty miles I runt Saline, and tine hundred uud sixtv miles west of Topcka. on Sunday evening. They came to wards evening, under the pretense oi friendship, anil massacred fourteen men, women find chil dren. The women were ravished, the men killed. So far as known, the wife and four children ot Thomas Alderic: one son. eleven years old, of Win. Hendricks: Andrias Allison's family, six in number, and the wife and sou of John Strang, are killed. The bodies were brutally mutilated, and great excitement prevails. Governor Harvey his called a battalion, of troop-, into the field tor six months, and Is now at Saline. A company of citizens went up to Saline river from Galena to re -cue some wounded men. The Indians have been seen near Ellsworth, Harker, Wilson Station, and Fort Hays. Gene ral Custer was out will, a couple of companies yesterdav. The Kansas Pacific Railroad runs as usual. Further depredations are not feared. The citizens are protcoting themselves, and prompt measures are being adopted for defense. It Is said this is merely a roving band, as there is no evidence of any general attack.
