Lonoon, .Tune 1. The linihi .Wins says it is
t-iitistaclory to find that President (ir.int's gov
ernment has a policy of conciliation and peace
ou the question between England mid the United
States. The Xewn is anxious to know the basis
on which the new deliberations are to bo con
ducted, hut if Mr. Motley's suggestions to Lord
Clarendon are pervaded by the spirit breathed
.it Liverpool, Americans may reasonably hope tor
success. England would be content to accept u
settlement arranged by Motley and Clarendon.
The TtU'grapk says any proposals made by Mr.
Motley will be weighed on their merits, as Eng
land, having made a protest against Mr. Sum
ner's doctrines, has dismissed it from considera
tion. The Star rejoices at the friendly tone of the
American Minister.

Fi.okkni'E. June 1. The rejection by the
rurliament of the financial plans proposed by
Digny will probably lead to his withdrawal from
tlie Cabinet and to further ministerial changes.
Havana, June 1. Advices from the City of
Mexico to May have been received. Many of
tlie Mexican States have refused to execute the
law of Congress for the suppression of party de
monstrations. General Mirafontas, compromised
by the revolution in Queretaro, has been de
graded lrom his rank in the army.
The Congress had absolved Generals Alvarez,
Davaloo, and Montevcrde from the charges of
disloyalty. Kidnappers were being prosecuted
with vmusvtd rigor throughout the country.
Governor Htsstainente has been acquitted of the
sharps of conspiracy. Colonel Mayer remained
in prison. Telegraphic communication across
Mexico was complete from the Atlantic to the
Pacific. A condueta of 3,00O,0il(J was on the
way from the capital to Vera Cruz.
New Yoiik, June 1. A t-pt ; I tl from Mexico
ays the statement in American journals th.it
Mexico was desirous of raising money by sell
ing Sonora is indignantly denied, and Minister
Koseerans denies sending any despatches to that
etiect. G.Uierre. has been captured and shot.
.Romero's bill for the issue of s.ii(K),00() in paper
money has failed in Congress.
Ernest Hcrdcll had arrived from Paris to take
charge of the French Legation.
Sixteen of Palacio's otticeis were shot by
General Tuit, in Siualoa. Palacio was sur
rounded, but escaped. Congrc-s was discussing
the forcigu debt. Corrabias argued that all
treaties with England, Spain, and Prance were
annulled by their intervention in Mexico, and
that new treaties were necessary before the pay
ment of the foreign loan eouhl be considered.
Much excitement was caused by an attempt of
Congress to impeach the Judges of the Superior
Court, tho latter claiming that ( longreiS had no
power to judge their act. General Negrete
was in the vicinity of Queretaro.

El.l.swoKTii, Kansas, June 1. The Indians
are making trouble in Kansas, on the. extreme
frontier ot the settlements. A party of about !&i
Cheyenne attacked a small unprotected settle
ment on the Saline river, about forty miles I runt
Saline, and tine hundred uud sixtv miles west of
Topcka. on Sunday evening. They came to
wards evening, under the pretense oi friendship,
anil massacred fourteen men, women find chil
dren. The women were ravished, the men
killed. So far as known, the wife and four
children ot Thomas Alderic: one son. eleven
years old, of Win. Hendricks: Andrias Allison's
family, six in number, and the wife and sou of
John Strang, are killed.
The bodies were brutally mutilated, and great
excitement prevails. Governor Harvey his
called a battalion, of troop-, into the field tor six
months, and Is now at Saline. A company of
citizens went up to Saline river from Galena to
re -cue some wounded men.
The Indians have been seen near Ellsworth,
Harker, Wilson Station, and Fort Hays. Gene
ral Custer was out will, a couple of companies
yesterdav. The Kansas Pacific Railroad runs as
usual. Further depredations are not feared.
The citizens are protcoting themselves, and
prompt measures are being adopted for defense.
It Is said this is merely a roving band, as there is
no evidence of any general attack.
