C. and Cheraw, S. C, via North eastern Railroad, a distance of 430 miles, at tho lowest calculation of speed (25 miles an hour), In 18 hours; or taking tlie cars irom Washington city via the Orange and Alexandria Railroal, via Lynchburg, and from thence via the no being constructed Lynchburg and Danville Rail road to tireensuoro, J. (J., and thence to Charleston, S. C, via tlie Central North Carolina Railroad to Cheraw, S. C, and Northeastern Railroad to-Charleston, a distance of 520 miles. in 21 hours, from Wushiugtou City to Charles ton, S. C. The proposed route from Greensboro to Che raw is designed to run through Guilford, Ran dolph, Moiitgomery, and Richmond counties, N. C, with easy grades, and very little rock ex cavation except in Montgomery, which is the finest mineral county In the State for gold, iron, and coal, where there is some slate excava tion necessary. The soil through these counties can and will he made very valuable, especially by foreign emigration. Landholders along the route have already given the incorporators as surances to suusenue uo,ihki acres ot land at the present cash value for stock iu the road. Ibe immense water powers of Deep. Wharrev. and Yadkin rivers will be developed by the Ceu tral road, which will run parallel iu many points with those rivers where the most important water powers are located, and in close proximity to the "Narrows," the great falls of the Yadkin. There are already located and in full operation nve large cotton lactones on Deep river, w ithin a distance of about ten miles.
