Yesterday afternoon, in Th Evenino Telegraph, were given tbe details of a probable murder of an old man, named James Hall. Au tiamlnatlon of witnesses was held last evening at Camden, before Coroner Roberts, when the following, among other evidence, was given: James Khodes sworn Reside No. 610 Adams Mreet, Nineteenth Ward; I recognized deceased as James Hull, of the T wiuty-nith. Ward; the deceased wa formerly a tavern-keeper, but re cently dealt In watches, jewelry, etc.; he carried bis articles of jewelry generally in his pockets; he left home on Thursday, about 9 o'clock In the morning. Michael E lson sworn -Reside at No. 229 Raeo street; knew James Hall well; saw him on Thursday, at noon; he said he intended to fro to Camden to look atter a lot he owned; ho had a watch in his pocket; ho was a member of the temperance society; bad belonged two years to the society; be whs a man of sound health; ho had some money on him; he oil'ered to pay me $29 out of tbe amount; he i-atd he was croing to Camden, and would stop at my place when he returned in the evenine. Edward Buckley sworn Reside in the Nine teenth Ward, Philadelphia; kjew deceased since I was a boy; saw him on Wednesday mornirg. A breastpin was here -xhiblled and recog nized by witness as the property of the deceased. He always carried a number of -watches in his pccVet. Eliza Corsey sworn Resido at KuiRhnsville, with my mother aud myeiaten, CliriMinit and Louisa Lew is; ou Thursiluv afternoon I was at tbe houf-eof Wary Biistow; KlizaVth Chambers, Elizabeth Morris, and Mrs. Lollium resido in the same houhe; this was between 2 and 3 o'clock; Elizabeth Chambers' door was shut when I went up stairs; I went tuto Mrs. Urte tow's room; 1 bad been there about half au hour when Mrs. Chambers called me in; she said there was a man lying on the floor dead, he wits cold all over; I saw a chair there; the man was lying at the left side of the chair; his head was nearest the chnir; there was a looking-elas there which she got from one of the other rooms; she got it to hold over his lace; 1 saw a double guard-chain on the nifm, and a watch; he had a breastpin in his pocket-book which she took from his pocket: there were a number ol greenbacks, nnts, and papers in it; one of the rings she put on her small finger; there were a number of watches in Lis pocket; she seemed surprised to sue so many watches; she said she was going to keep them; she went away from the house and re mained about a quarter of ait hour; she took the watches and pocket-book; she came back with Mr. Crosley. The case was then continued till Monday at 1 o'clock. . . Artillery Corps of the Washington Greys. Un Tuesday evening last this company formally opened their new armory, located on Lardner street, in the rear of Horticultural Hall. The second floor of the building is di vided int three rooms two company aud a drill-room. The company rooms ore occupied respectively by Company D, Grey Reserves, and the Washington Greys, and are fitted up in elaborate style. They are twenty feet wide by thirty feet deep, and the carpetlngs, upholstery, paintings, and furniture are handsome and appropriate. The drill-room, one of the best ventilated and- lighted in the country, is 110 feet in depth by 70 feet in width. The walls are tastefully ornamented with oaken musket-racks, and at the upper end of the room are arranged some oiie hundred closets for the use of the members. The army committees deserve the congratu lations of the members oi the two companies for the manner in which they have discharged their duties. The exercises of the evenlner commenced with a panide drill, and the manner in which the "(.reys" performed the evolutions called forth ercouiiums from all present. Later in the even ing the Liberty Cornet Band visited tke armoiy and discoursed patriotic and other popular airs. Quite a number of distinguished military char acters were prepent, amongst whom were a number of the old members of the Greys, Gene ral Hoffman, Colonel C. Ross Smith, Major J.N. Peirsol, Captains Wood and Parry. The company Is nearly full, and the material ci which it is "made is well known to the com munity. They have parade drills every Tues day evemne, non-commissioned oilirers' drill on Thursday evening, and squad drill ou Baturduy evening. The Armory is now completed, an 1 those who take an interest in military matters will be re warded by visiting tbe Armory ou any of the above evenings. We wish the "Greys" every success, and hope ere long to see this commend able and spirited organization swell into a regi ment. T h f. Girard College. The special commit tee of Council appointed to examine into the facts connected with tho removal of Major Smith from the position of President of Girard College, held their first meeting yesterday after noon, at the College buildiug. Tue committee sat with closed uoors, aud at the close of their session it was announced that the committee had determined to admit at the future meeting? one of the members of the Boaid of Directors who had voted for the removal of Major Smith, and one of the membeTs who had voted against the resolution of dismissal, eacb party to Belect tbe gentleman to be admitted to the hearing, the President of the Co. lege also to be present while the Eitectors were- being examined.
