THE DAILY EVENING TELEGRAPH PHILADELPHIA, WEDNESDAY, JULY 3, 18G7. rOL YGLOT EA TING. . , The Tarls correspondent of London paper ' dm made a diligent na pidentljr iuoA consci entious exploration ot all toe roruuranti con nected with the Inhibition-French, Turkish, Amoriran, Dutch, German, Altrmne. Danish, etc. ills account of the reUoebmeni otfered, and the manner of oervice; is piquant: , , .. tna pbSnph CArKS.. - The tnornlna l-a the time to se; out. at 10 aIMaaIi i n k tli at root n r T . tL l.nr. mine, jou may commence with the Uuiver&al - Restaurant, Just as the waiters, in a body, white uproned and In thin-Meevci, are linn-bins their break last. The early meal at tbis station Is charged tor half-a-crown, and dinner double that (amount, Including very fair claret, al though I em visitors adliujr to iheir i-cds-hs such remarkable coiriblnHtiotis of ices, codec, ' chocolate, sherbets, and other extras, that no wonder they look atrhat at thor bills. At Gotipet'sthe tuanaeeis pride themselves particu larly on thotr store of English comestible, and Cro6e& Black well's pickies and sauce, Huntley Palmer's biscuits, anil, of course, A Mop's and Bass' ales, and Barclay & Perkins' porters, the last of which, next to the pale ale, Is the most hupely consumed. With these, 1 notice moun tains ot radishes, in led profusion, fresh irom market, and the attendants engaged in prepa ring them, not In the kitchen, but in the saloon, on the very tables they are soon t) decorate; also, cartloads, literally, of asparagus of each a' size as we rarely see at home; Macks of oucum bere, beaped-up baket, very odorous and sug gestive of ripe flavors with n; rising pyramids of strawberries, cherries, and aprlcois; a golden wealth of oranges; but nothing, it must bo con fessed, very cheap. THE AMERICAN QUARTER. I am bow, I am sure, getting near the continent of America. Tnere are gilded announcements of sherrv-cobblers, biandy suiash, brandy, gin, and whisky cocktails. And so where are the United States themselves, with colored waiters not all, tor yon may epy In the back room certain gracctul young ladies in float- Itio t-nlrnPTlt. ff nhifo aiiH riumKn ic Mn4iiiilailn alert and civil. The inducements to linger are, among others, iced nnlk-punch in peneciion, ''fresh oysters on the shell from New Xork," 'strawberry short-cake, " and a "ladies' parlor With piano." In no other department through out the Exhibition can I find the word "gent," addressed in letters of goll to possible cus tomers. THB ORIENTAL BTTLE. By a transition a little startling you come, all at once, upon a Tunisian coffee-shop, lightly built of wood, painted in crimson, amber, green, and lead color, pink, blue, and gold, with little semi-Saracenic arches and Arabic inscriptions, but not yet open lor business; indeed, every where a great deal yet remains to be done. Kext door China is preparing a "chop-house," in two tints of deep blue and an abundance of -vermilion, with a sort of pagoda lintel over the doorway. The genuine Turkish bouse of enter tainment Is also unfinished; but Koumanla sup plied us with a saoet irom the bands of a most elegant and decorous .TOung lad?, picturesquely attired, thoueh only in a semi-Oriental fanhion, and also with a glass of ter native wines, fur which the price is tenpence. You may also, however, have dulceata, placlote, blttcava'e, and calaifsu, or, if afraid ot them, soda, lemon ade, or seltzer water. THE RUSSIAN FA8HI0N. - I arrive nest in Italy, where rose-colored and white dresses, black hair, and dark eyes flutter and wave and sparkle behind the bar; and next In u-eia, where the undress ot the male waiters is a white linen coat, vitb a sort of military col lar, girded by a Holland belt, in which a cork- , screw is thrust, as thoueh it were a dagger; but the full dress is a garment of the same cut, com posed ot a material resembling silk, and the color brilliant blues and scarlets. The lady . wears a white bodice, having a crimson Vtst over it, both much decollete?, the latter more so than the former, and supported oy scarlet braces passing over the shoulder, short, full, white muslin sleeves, a skirt lather ample, rose colored, reaching, and only reaching, to the ground, all richly embroidered with gold, and on her bead a high red and gold tiara, the gene ral effect, with her clear complexion, regular features, and calm expression, being far from nnpleasing. I should not forget a pair of pro digious earrings. What am I invited to take at this establishment? Bo far as I can tell you, nothing except Bass' pale ale. There are cer tain hieroglyphics upon the windows, which, could I decipher them, offer something else. SWEDISH PUNCH. Sweden Is very importunate on the subject of Swedish punch. I must stop, though not for this, because I am trying to sketch the costumes, and do not tell me that it is only women who care for these things. Half the books of travel in our libraries are occupied with them. My only Idea in taking the circuit of the Exhibi tion building, to make a note or two concerning .them, was in order that visitors having a ' curiosity in such matters might know where to satisfy it. Here is a damsel of demure and de cisive appearance, presiding over the Swedish, punch-bowl, wearing, round tte back knot of her Huht, tightly-braided balr, a plain white linen cap, in shape like a "demi-crown,n and clad In a simple white kerchief, a black and red bodice this, too, npheld by braces of the same colors and a short skirt of black, pink and white stripes. She will seive you at your pleasure, either with the aforesaid "royal punch," or strong beer, or native qualities of that beverage called "Scotch" and "Bavarian," or barley-brandy, or coffee-punch, or arrack, or "rbum" in many forms, which are not too advi sable. THB GERMANS. The Austrian furnishers aim only at elegance, abundance, and good quality. I would mention,, however, that the sweetness, purity, nutritive qualities, and general excellence of their bread have been the subject of much remark. They are, in this respect, far superior to ourselves, and even to the .French, who, bv-the-way, have of recent years seen a considerable diminution in the fame of their bakers. One French jour- nal 1st declares that a Vienna roll which he ate . t Vienna was tha most exauisite in the world. - Austria, in order to prove her superiority, has established a bakery in the Exhibition Park, and thence are sold, all over Paris, daily, delicious : titbits, made as only Austrian! can make them, which excite the envy of the native tradesmen. - I must, however, hasten on, or I shall never got to the end or me woria. i couia get naming to eat or drink in Wurtemberg. Baden, or Hesse. They have brought over plenty of hams, aroma- tio Dreaa irom uim, coaee, cnocoiaw. wine, ana beer, bonbons and cider, and hitherto seem to lave locked them un: but Bavaria is present in white-br&ided dresses and silver-embroidered jackets, and many German liquors: as also, lightly modified in outward aspect, Is Prussia. TBI ALOEKINBS. The Aleerlne, "Abraham All Ben," sits with a portly presence, while his servitors carry about the neat and pretty little tables coffee and tea at twopence halfpenny a cup and "salep" at fmirneiirn. Thn waiters are youths in tez caps. Ted waistbands, baggy knickerbockers of various hues, and more or less dirty brown stockings, iniioiiiusWiiiiji Thia i not a buffet. It is a recess in a wall, where the coffee is made by Abraham Ben All's assistants, and the decoo '. tion thus prepared, though I'ttle in given for the email sum charged is by no menus of an interior Kino, as seems to tninn tne puny oiu ui . iuta ul.n nnor Anil then Wfli?l7pr to the BPOt, , You may also enlov Ouava putty, a hundred sorU of tellies, nunc'h made ol Martinique rum, rauee wlue, or Rrape wine, now a Cnrlstmas sweet, and finger cream. And here ends for a time my pilgrimage of what the French call -"Uegusiituou." ' ' Diary mt a Hot Week. Sunday Day of rest; of course nothing can 1 .
