A Paris correspondent describes a singular scene which recently occurred at the Restaurant Gouset in the reserved garden of the Paris Ex hibition. In an elegant suloon the comnanv at three tables were remarked for their unreserved cavetv. The first was occupied bv M. Dormeuil. director of the Phlais Royal Theatre; the second by M. Ilarmant, director of the Vaudeville, each of whom was entertaining some members of his theatrical staff. Alter having shown them the splendors of the Exhibition, jests were ex changed among the three tables, and the Bounds of merriment were frequent. Sud denly Ilarmant paused. His stage director, Vizentini, bad whispered something in his ear; Harmant rose and spoke in a low tone to his two colleagues; each remained surprised, gazing on a head of marvellous stupidity, similar to that of Grassot at twenty. The same nose, a similar idiotic smile contradicting the shrewd expression of the eyes, and the same stature. In fine, the most coniic and original countenance , that could be seen. The head belonged to a waiter oi me restaurant, wno appearel in no way surprised at his unexpected success. "It Is a treasure," said one. "It is a gem," excl'.l-ned the second. "I must have him." said Karn.ant. The hero was at once sent for, ami oil-is began. Fortunately, he bal alniwv been on the stage, but hud quitted the j -rofcsslon to become a waiter, and thereby earn twenty francs a day. Such a sum would 'make tho boldest reflect, but imprei8arli on the look-out for novelties know no obstacles; twenty francs a day Is six hundred fraios a mouth; the Palais Royal ottered lour huudred francs; the Odeon, four hundred and fifty francs; but the Vaudeville at length triumphed by several lengths in this cowio race. M. JLIar Biant wished to sign the treaty at once; but the other made a show of reluctance, as his ambi tion bad grown with hia success. Anew piece for his debut Is about to be ordered, aud in the month of October will be een this singular head. What was the astonishment of M. Har mant on receiving his bul, running thus: Ureakfast, sixty irancs; consultation ot the garoon, ten franc ; first month's salary In ad vance, elx hundred francs. Total, six hundred and seventy francs. Otstebb in England. The new oyster beds I n the bight of the river Exo, in Devonshire, Kngland, extend over nearly one hundred acres.
