There Is an old Biirsory tliyme In venue which, with a Hllnlit Flonf' ?S U ?P" to the present trrbuii: tionB of the cauiue world The "Uorg" vernloa would run somewhat as follows: ' InVkJ hBrk ' Tl,e lllU 'okii bark, lhe dog-catchers are cmning to town; borne wltb ropes, and Borne with clubs, Ana one In a striped gown." The ordinance, which prohibits "Old Dog Jiay 'andhlH comrades irom lunulnK at larae in me bummer seasou, unless they are securely niuzzled.went Intoopurailou on tneUt-h lnstunt. but no utu mptwas imule to eutorce it until luesduy. It was thou that a sudden paulc seized upon the canine world, and numerous Kpecliiieus of that utifoi lutitite, brute known all over the world as "nobody's dog," were to be seen running throiiKh me streets with an unseemly si-eeii, that lairly rivalled that of the fcwlue 01 oi.ieu times iu wnoiu the exorcised ueiiiiujH loiiuu nnuiier. This ceremony or dog catching is frequently tlended with lauKlmbie surroundings. About o'clock this rnortiinir tli small i,v-u t n, neighborhood of .Second and riiruco streets were allorded a hlguiy edllying exhibition of the sport, to witness wuioli they turned out In imposing numbers, and In the most enthusias tic fcplrits. A member of the fraternity of "catchers" was the centre of attraction, aud every separate and Individual striDe of his vantuated slurt wasoiigoily scrutinized by all the urchins, ranged unci otherwise, In the vicinity. Hy-aiiL-by u cock-eyed, stuinp-tailod tp. ilmen 01 uuiure's hunaiwork lu tne dog line cuiue along, and was greeted witti the most vocileixius appiuuse. Hut never did mi, rial man ever mis calculate so crossly upon the chances of success In a deed ol high emprise, j lie objective point ol the "catchers" operations was of course the net k of the unmuzzled dog. Now the nature of that dog happened to be uuer.y depraved; aud, thereioie.Just us his uuguiuly head wasubout to lull within the colls ol tiio ropo, lie gave a sudden lurch to the right, aud forthwith bounded up Bpruce street with as much haste as If his movements had bona accelerated by the appendage to his tail of a tin kettle tilled with stones. The urchins followed with a tre mendous uproar, aud the discomfited catcher," much depressed iu spirits, sauntered along at an easy pace, seeulug the presence of the next canine- whom no mix tit attempt to devour. lu this connection, wo understand that Mr. l'a.iner, the member of (Jouiinou Council from the Thirteenth Ward, bus prepared a supple mentary ordinance, which he will submit to Councils on Thursday, wnlcu prohibits dogs from ruuning at large at any time during tue year without muzzles, and also extending the provisions of the law to those portions of the city now exempt. It Is to be hoped that this measure will prove successful, and that our city will in the end be altogether ridded of the nuisance of wundering dogs. A Temperanck Gathering. Its object was to give on opportunity lor the t-xpression of opinion relative to the nomina tions ot the party to be voted lor at the October election. The idea of the participants is to secure the renomination of Judge Ludlow; to name General Peter Lyle torSheritl; aud then to pin the rest of the ticket to the coat-tails of the gentlemen in question, in order to secure the election of their entire ticket.
