Kpecliiieus of that utifoi lutitite, brute known all

be seen running throiiKh me streets with an
unseemly si-eeii, that lairly rivalled that of the

This ceremony or dog catching is frequently

lu this connection, wo understand that Mr.

Councils on Thursday, wnlcu prohibits dogs
from ruuning at large at any time during tue
year without muzzles, and also extending the
provisions of the law to those portions of the
city now exempt. It Is to be hoped that this
measure will prove successful, and that our city
will in the end be altogether ridded of the
nuisance of wundering dogs.
A Temperanck Gathering. A large num

Chesnut street, last evening, to take action ou
the reorganization of a city society lor the pro
motion of the good cause.
General Louis Wauner, President of the
Society, occupied the Chair. The proceedings
were opened with prayer by .Rev. Alexander
lieed.
The President then made.'a brief and succinct
statement in regard to the organization of the
Philadelphia Temperance Society one year ago,
and the progress ot the cause, which was com
pletely successful. He stated tbc object of the
present movement to be the union of all sympa
thizers in the cause ol temperance, in the reor
ganization ot a city society, it deemed advis
able, as an auxiliary to the Pennsylvania Tem

tin motion, John P. Cline, George F. Turner,
and J. E. McCaullay were appointed a Com

By request, tbe Correp ponding Secretary then

A Democratic Con vention. In the large room
of the Keystone Club, in Twelfth street, below
Chesnut, last night, n meeting ol Democrats was
held. Its object was to give on opportunity lor the
t-xpression of opinion relative to the nomina
tions ot the party to be voted lor at the October
election. The idea of the participants is to
secure the renomination of Judge Ludlow; to
name General Peter Lyle torSheritl; aud then
to pin the rest of the ticket to the coat-tails of
the gentlemen in question, in order to secure
the election of their entire ticket.
Ex-Mayor Vaux, as usual, presided. The
meeting was called to order by Albert K. Scno
held. A list of Vice-Presidents was named.
Mr. William Loughlen, Tneodore Cuyler, Daniel
W. Iok, William Bousall, and Thomas J.
Koberts were named as Vice-Presidents, though
noDe of them were present, and Tnomas J.
Barger and Albert D. Uoiluau ware appointed
(Secretaries.
Mr. Vaux made a speech, in which he de
clared that it the party only made a good
ticket, and named none but first-class men,
tbe Republicans would this lall be beaten out
ot their gaiters.
Mr. John Hulme was called upon for a soeccb,
but did not respond. Counselor O'Byrne
afterwards made a very fine address. At a late
hour we left him still speaKing of the green
isle, the battle of the Boyne, and the stars and
stripes of the Jefferson Davis party.
