The Sunday Car Question Again. So the Editor of the Evening Tclcgrap. In an elaborate article in the Press ot Monday complaint is made that the ClUPStinn vug Ha. tided in opposition to the votos of the four Senators and of seventeen out of eighteen members of the House from this city, and also in opposition to the wishes of the seven hun dred thousand population within our limits Now, Mr. Editor, it seems to the writer that tins is a very unfair statement of the case Very many of the seven hundred thousand people in this city most heartily thank the majority of the Senate for their action in the case. The seven hundred thousand includes our whole population men, women, and chil- aren. VI these a very large proportion are members of our various churches; and of these church members, a very large proportion are opposed to the running of cars on the babbath, or to any other desecration of the day. IN'ow this portion of our people feel that they have benn sadly misrepresented in both branches by our members of the Legislature, and that they have to thank the members from other parts of the btate for the result they are so much gratified with. They constitute a large part of our useful, enterprising, benevolent, and religious citizens, who have built our churches and contributed liberally to all our benevolent and other public institutions, who are entitled at least to their relative influence in the Legislature, when in fact not a vote from a city member (except one) was given in accordance with their wishes. The assump tion of the 1'rcss that all our people desire the cars to run on bunday, is very wide of the truth. On the contrary, the great majority, I repeat, of the class of our population referred to, are most strenuously and anxiously op- DOHfid to it. Tile Prrsx also rofrn. ntif.nirlv 11. is thought, to the alleged practice of wealthy people riding to church in carriages. It is not so. On the contrary, it is a very rare thiujf for any person in health to take out a private carriage for that purpose.
