There were but ten fires during last week, all of a very triflinp character. The house of the Robert Morris Hone Company has recently been repainted and thoroughly repaired. It now presents a very handsome appearance. The steam fire engines bclonerinfj to the West Philadelphia Hose and the West Philadelphia Engine Companies will have a friendly trial on Friday afternoon next, at Fairmount Park. The fallowing gentlemen have been elected Officers of the Robert Mors Hose Company: President, James L. Helmbold; Vice-President, T. B. Young; Secretary, A. H. Baker was picked up on Satur day evening by a police otlicer at the corner of Front and Richmond streets, in the Sixteenth Ward, laboring under the influence, as was sup posed, of liquor. He was taken to the Station House, where he died yesterday morning. A post-mortem examination being made by Dr. fchsplcleh, disclosed the fact that death was caused by enlargement of the heart. The Coro ner then held an inquest, and a verdict was ren dered accordingly. Baker was formerly a police officer. He lived in Manheim alley, in toe Seven teenth Ward, and leaves a wife and family. The Coroner also held an inquest on the body ot a man named Thomas Lacornpte, aged 40 years, who died yesterday morning, at his resi dence, No. 1S3 Brown btreet. The jury rendered a verdict of death from heart disease. Anniversary op the Lincoln Institution. A short time since this Institution celebrated its first anniversary. It was opened for inmates April 17, 1866. Two boys were placed in the Home on the day of its dedication, and from that time the number hat increased to 75 boys all but two, orphans of soldiers. Nearly all the children are under twelve years of age, and regularly in attendance at school. Six or eight are over that age, and have positions In stores and offices. The provision made for each child by the State is $110 per annum. The managers say that $2000 per year addi tional is required to render the Institution self snpporting, and they depend upon the free will offerings of our citizens to make up that amount. Burning op A Shuttle Factory. At 6 o'clock yesterday mornlnat fire was discovered on the first floor of R. Sereeson's shuttle manu factory, back ol No. 933 Charlotte street. Be fore the flames were extinguished the stock, machinery, and lumber stored in the building were considerably damaeed by fire and water. An insurance of $5000 will cover the loss. The buildine, a tour-story brick structure, owned by Maria Bergeson, was not much injured. Effects op Riding on the Front Platform. About 4 o'clock; on Saturday afternoon a lad named Charles Fralev, aged fourteen years, and who resides at No. 1324 Vienna street, fell from the front platform of a passenger car, at Cedar street and Lehigh avenue, and broke his leg.
