0 CARNIVAL. EAL Wm OF JIMR MffiERCHOR, Itrllllnat Fl Daaaante at the Academy lmt Klaxht Clarions Ceremonials, Trick and Acts, Etc, Etc. The ((rand ball of the Young Micunerchor tacletv if always looked forward to wltb delimit both hy German fellow-cltlzcns and many American families. In many respects the ball given lust night eclipsed all others given by this association. A more grati fying and enjoyable fete dansanle and manque it fens not been our good fortune to attend. We ore glad to announce that this affair was a complete success 10 every particular. Going to the Ball. From seven o'clock until ten a steady strnam of maoqiipradprs poured Into the Academy, and the bustle and laughter of the crowd was truly xhllaratiug, and death to the worst pocis of Blue devils. The Kntrauee. Tbe doors were In charge of a Special Cora ittee, who provided an ample police force to maintain the moBt perfect order. These were in charge of Major Charles Lambsback, of the Mayor's Reserve Corps, agisted by several offi cers of the Pevcnth Ward Police. The latcrlor. Tlie flrenslTig and coat rooms wre In charge t careful and coropctimt persons, aud there was no rash or confusion to mar the pleasures of this evening. There was no attempt made by the managers k adorn the Academy, Tbe usual parquette floor was laid so as to torin an extension to Uie stage. Up to half-past 8 o'clock the parquette circle and balcony were crowded with mauii2 raders, dressed in varied and masui!ice;it costumes, and the -ight from the curiam was ne of real grandeur and beauty. Xh Entree and Ovation to the Prince Carnival, Shortly after 9 O'clock tbe curtail, was raised, and tbe procession of the Prince Carnival was ccrj. It was the most grotesque cortege of the period. A tie of caricatured policemen led the van, totlowed by the "Alphaoetic Band," com posed ot twenty-seven persons, phcd bearing a placard lore and aft, upon which whs painted a huge Alphabetical character, and one with a mark ol exclamation !). Hiicceedinn those came a guard of honor, and a fall brans band praying the trraud inured from Un JBallo in Mamnera. In the rear ot these was the bcautilul car of the carnival, painted blue, and covered with stars and drapery ol red, white, and blue colors. In this vehicle sat the Prmce and Princess arrayed in appropriate: cotumP8. The chariot was drawn by two mam n.oth bath, who (which 1) were driven by a very pranky tellow dressed as an ape. The car was tanked by many beautiful young ladies, attired as maid ol honor, and kniehts mo id tea upan (papier) emaciated steeds. Following the train ! ot the Prince's chariot came nn army ot iriBMiupraders. in every conceivable costume. There were knights, Mars, nuns, kins, dukes, nnnc ses, clowns, harlequins.culumb'mes, tuon Itejs, dogs, pie, toads, cows, lambs, ducks, and "little dears" in endless variety. Alter marching aro'ind the staae several times the proeessiou halted, and the Piince and Princess were introduced to the immense au dience. The welcome was extended in a npat speech from the Master of Ceremonies, and politely and graciously acknowledged by th; JTince. Alter this the A. B. C. boys perfoiniel some novel teats. At the word of command there appeared upon their breast-plates the words, 'WEI COME TO THE BALL OF THE YOUNG MjKNNEK- enoB." This novelty wa loudly cheered by the brilliant audience, and the ball began. The most amusing and interesting feature oi tie evening was the appearance ot twelve Blanks, path representing a letter, and the, whole forming ihe legend. "MiennercUor." Tlie renllt men composing this group were all mem bers ot tbe "Old Miennercbor." They wore high peaked hats, bearim: the wor.ls "January 2Utb" thereon, on which even'ng the M.imner tnor bold their Annual Masked Ball at the Aca'lcmy. They, through combination of the letters, formed all sorts of words, which pro duced great applause, aud was really somoth ng new and interesting. The Muile was furnished by two bauds, and it was through out admirable. The promenade band, led by Protesoor Theo. Herrman, played nineteen tine Larches, and tbe string orchestra executed seventeen popular dances, tinder the direction ol Professors Mark and Simon Hassler. The selections were as follows: 1. Young Vaenuerchor's Sal Masque March. M Mailer. 'L lu Selfliesschwlneon, l.anner. 3. I'ro aaenaoe Music. 4. Quadrille Sylvester, ConradL ft. Pro menade Maine. . Scbovtish. Ca olinen. The Compauy, Those who were present last evening will bear us out in the assertion that the patrons of the Young MtenDerchor ball were most Btlect, and the dresses unusually rich and varied. A Poetical Effusion. A young lady who persisted in waltzing most lurvously with a young physician of thiB city, fell into a swoon as soon as the music ceased, and was conveyed to a private room, where she food revived, aud was on tbe floor in time for the "efe-a-tee lancers." This young lady after wards droppei a glove, which our Jouvin-ile Carnival reporter ptcked up and returned to her. In receiving it, she let fall a pifceof tinted and perlumed paper, upon which was written these lines: TBB BAT. MASQUE. The human monstrosities known here some years ago as the ' Aztec Children,1 have recently been exhibited in England. The Lon don papers retort that they were married In that city on the 7th in-lant. The London Merwd says: 'The bride was dressed In a Russian costume, precepted to 'her by 'the Governor-General of Moscow; and the couple proceeded, with Mr. J. M. Morris, their guardian, to the ollice of tbe Registrar of St. George's, Hanover Square, where, in the presence of the Registrar-General, who had issued the license after due inquiry whether there was any bar to the union, tbo couple were made one by civil contract. They then returned to their iodgines, where the girl was attired in a white satin dress, with a lace veil, an orange-blossom wreath, all, as well as the jewelry which she wore, being made for the occasion by Messrs. Howell it James, ot Regent street. Tlie bridegroom wojre a wcll-ntting suit of evening dress, with a camclia In one button hole and the. ribbon of some continental order, whereof he is a member, in the other. "Soon after 1 o'clock they were taken to Willis' Rooms, where they were attended in tbe capacity ot bridesm aids by the young persons who usual ly see to their wants, and where they were re reived by a numerous company, among whom were Lord William Lennox and Dr. Brewer, the radical candidate for Colchester, who has taieu an active part in lorwardtng this marriage, on tbe ground that it will be lor the happiness and welfare of the pair, who are decidedly much attached to each other. The girl, who carried a wbi'e bouquet, conduct! d herself as modestly, and, notwithstandinc her olive skin, a biu'h ingly as any other bride; and, as lor the 'happy man,' be was -imply at his wits' end withexulta tion. Mr. Mori is took the head of the the table, havinir on his right the joune couple, and on his left lr. Brewer and Lord William Lennox. "Aficr u sumptuous Otjeuner, served in Messrs. Willis' best stvle, the toasts of 'The Queen,' The Prince and Prince-s ot Wales,' and 'President Johnscn' Vi ere given, followed by that ol 'Health and Happiness to the Bride and Bridegroom,' which was heartily received, Mr. Morris re turned thacks on their behalf; and Siunor MstXimo Nunez, which is the name the bride eiooni besrs, in his gentle way expressed h's thanks in pantomime. The healihof Mr. Morris, and one or two other toasts, followed; after which the company adjourned to another apart ment, where they had the satisfaction ot seeing the couple under le-s restraint of etiquette than before, and where both created a vry favorable impression by their general amiability aud ob vious mutual affection." Wedlock tn Meiuphlx. The number of marriage certificates issued in Memphis in 18(iti was 107i", and the number ot 1 hose returned .10!). The war, considering the situation and experience of Memphis. Hurl a less discouraging edoct on matrimony than might be supposed. The number of inarr'uigcs m lUU, iudh ated by the number of returned certincaten were 31'.!, aud durinu all the troubles were at no time less, except in 1861, when they fell to !2G4. In 18C2 (we quote lrom a Memphis contempo rary) an increase was noticeable, which miuht have been tiaced perhaps to tbe attractions just then offered by giey coins and brass buttons The number of certificate leturned this year was In 18fi3 there were 3!)0 certificates re turned. This iucrease, since ihe federals had in the meantime occupied the place, was doubt less ow iug to the faettha'. many ol the boys h id got his, enough to marry since the war, and were picked up by tne girls who were looking quite blue over the prospect of becoming old uiuids. In 1864 the number again ran up, and reached 421. which we can only attribute to the matur ing of old engagements and the returning icel ings of union that were being entettained uooui then. In 18G5 the war terminated, the soldiers "came marching bome," and the girls weut oil' :.ke pot cakes, 4(i8 cprtitlca-'es uf est the tact tllat ninny ol rlie deaf ones found waistcoats on which to recline. A Paris correspondent writes that the latent fashion for ladies m that city is "to wear dog skin gloves, and to wear them till to use a gipsy-like, perhaps, but "lill expressive simile ihey are 'as black as a tinker's pot.' The more like they are to that engine of the battene dp cuisine of the domestic repairer th more thjy are admired.
