From the Boston Vot, August 11. A further examination into the cane of Michael O'llart, who was reported to have shot himself at No. 1 btillmtin street, leads to the belief that he was murdered. ribe circumstances indicate that he was first sliot, and tnen beaten over the head with a hatchet. John Brown, a young man twenty-one j cars of nee, has been arrested on (SBMpicion of being the murderer. Oilier Twombly states, says the Imcelier, that alter the allair occurred ho entered the bouse, where he was met by Mrs. O'Harc, who stated to him that her husband bad shot himself, but exhibited veryjlittle emotion. The ollicer entered the room, and found .O'Hare I ViiiK on the Moor iu about two callous of blood, !?cveral physicians were called, who gave it as their opinion that be had been murdered, an opinion that the ollicer bad also formed soon after seeing the deceased. The room was searched to tiud the revolver with which the deed had been committed, but the cllorts ot the officer ana physicians were fruit less. AJrs. O'Hare remarked that atter her hus band shot himself he must have thrown the revolver out of the window. Since Sunday niabt she has produced a small pistol belonging to her husband, and says tunt he probably shot himself with it: but experts state that it has nut been disconitrcd, troni appearances, lor six months. Mr. u'Hare was shot through the right eye, the ball passing turouch the head und lodgiug atrainst the back of the skull, where it was found flattened. Upon exuiuinin;r him, several blows were discovered on his head, und fiagmcnls of the skull found in the blood ou the floor, one of which was an inch and a quarter in length. Tho physiclaus who examined the de ceased state thiit they never saw a man so terribly beaten. Con inn Inn his search of tbe premises Ollicer Twombly found a hatchet with blood stains upon it and some hairs, though an attempt had evidently been made to wash the stains oil. There then seemed to be no doubt that some persons had entered the room, shot Mr. O'llare, and afterwardstook the hatchet and pounded him over the head with it. His wife, on being questioned, said that she left the room to get some kindlings to make a fire with next mornintr. and that when she returned she found her husband lying on the floor iu a pool of blood. Her statements were somewhat coullictiug, and she at first lefused to cive the ollicer aay informa tion ai to who had been with her husband pre vious to the atl'air, remarking that she did not want that man mixed up in the a Hair. At lest, however, she said that a young man named John Brown, twenty -one years ot age, had been in his company ten minutes before. It whs also learned that Brown had spent money with the deceased, and thev seemed to be on very intimate terms ot friendship. The ollicer made a search lor the suspected person, but could not tiud him. Ollicer Twombly succeeded iu find ing Brown at a house in Miles court, in the rear of Eudlcott street, on Thursday night, and arrested him. He was taken before Justice Hurd, in the Municipal Court, yesterday, and fully committed lor further examination on the 18th. Mrs. O'Hare has also been arrested on suspicion of beinsr concerned in the murder of her- bin band, and is also confined in the Suirolt jail. Brown, who is described as an exemplary young man, is said to have visited tha house frequently, and sometimes during the absence of Mr. O Hare, w hen he was en Pertained by his wile; and there are reports that the couple wore qulto intimate. Coupled with her iesire to keep tho nameol Brown tiotn the police, the circum stances are such as to lead many to svpDose that he and Brown were the parties concerned in the murder. As soon as the alarm wa given on bunday nieht Brown entered the room, but was not at all excited. Persons in the room remarked that Mr. O'Hare was unusually calm under the circim'suaes, and the same remark was made by those who saw her In Court this morning. VERDICT OF THE CORONER'S JURY. From the Evening Commercial, August 11. The tury summoued to hold an inquest on the "body ot Michael O'Hare, who, it was stated, committed suicide, hve returned the following verdict: "That he came to his death on Sunday, tho 6th day of August, A. D. IhGO, about 9 o'clock P. M., at No. 7 Stillman street, from a blow or blows upon the head with an instrument, caus ing a cotnponnd comminuted fracture of the skull, and severe injury to the brain, and from a wound of the brain made by a ball tired from a pistol the blow or blows being inflicted and the pistol tired by some person or persons to the jury unknown." TheLazams Murder In New York. In response to a request made by Bernard Friery, now lying under sentence at the Tombs, to bo executed tor the murder of Harry Lazarus on the 17th of the present mouth, a reporter, in company with the fclieriff, visited him yesterday, and received the following STATEMENT: In view of my approaohlng end, I wish to give , a brief account of the few thinns I remember lu connection with the unhappy position In which I am now placed, and at the fame time to cor rect some misstatements which I understand I have been publicly circulated about me, and which have caused me much pain und uneasi ness. . NO DIFFICULTY WITH LAZARUS. ' ' His due to me to say In the first place that never, at anv time, had I anv. even the slishtcst. difficulty with Lazarus, and th;it I nad no pro vocation whatever to the commission of tbe j - deed tor which I am to sutler. On the night of the occurrence and for several days befoie, I had, together with other young men, it being New Year's, been vt-uting at a number of drinkine houses, and from tho effect of the liquor I becamo perfectly oblivious and totally irresponsible for my actions. I have been told by persons that while under the in fluence of liquor I always act very stranero'y aad wildly; I have not the faintest recollection ol entering Lazarus' house, or ot anything which happened there; I have been told that the parties' who took me there came to my bouse atter I had been carried up stairs and luid on the bed with my clothes on, aroused me and led me away witn ttem. OF THB FIGHT I know nothing; neither do I remember having -been taken out of Lazarus' house, or "xdugput. Into the sleigh. When 1 woke up the next morn ing, tit Harlem. J was greatly surprised at not kflndiiiB myself in my own house, and at once started to go home. On tbe way, I was arrested by a sinsle policeman, and walked quietly to tho station-houe. I bad no knowledge for what I was arretted, nor did the policeman intorm me. Iu reference to - - - ' TUB TRIAL, ' Bhdthe manner" ih "which Itjwu conducted, I feel,' alter due consideration, that I have .nothing to complain ol. Some of tho state ment made by the witneses not particularly in relation to the fact of the murder, but upon matters connected with il were untrue. I do not desire, however, to find luult with them, but shail endeavor to heartily torgfve tbom, understanding fully that they are answerable alone to a just (Jod. TDK KNIFI with which the deed was committed did not belone to me, cor bad I ever carried a knife or other weapon. The knife belonired to a gentle mau now tilling an important position In Charleston, and well known in this city, but whose name need not be disclosed. 1 took the knife away from him when he was drunk, sup posing that he might do mischief with it. it the time I took it I purposely broke it in half, so as lo render it useless. How it was that I carried it along with me I cannot tell. EFFECTS OF BAD COMPANY. I attribute my misfortune to having foolishly allowed myself to be led astray into bad com pany. I do not. however, wish now to censure anybody. I must suffer tho consequences of my acts; and I intend to do so Hue a good Christian, and inspired with tho fortitude alia inir from a sure conviction that a better life awaits me on the other side of the grave. ASKS FORGIVENESS. I earnestly entreat forgiveness from the rela tives of Harry Laxarus tor the evil I unconsci ously brought upon them. I did not commit the crime from any feeling of malice or haired, but ouly fiom some insane inlatuation created by liquor. I ak also that my misfortunes will not be allowed to in jure my own rolativcs in reputation or other ke. They are in no way answerable for the crime that I have committed, and it is not just that they should sutler in consequence of it. HIS CONDUCT IN PRISON. The statements hi reference to my conduct in prison, in which I nave been chained with having insulted those devoted women, the Sisters of Mercy, and used obscene and im proper language, is wholly untrue. I refer to the keepers ot the priron to tesMfy that my behavior since my confinement has been decent and orderly. A WARNINO TO YOUNO MEN. I sincerely hope that my unhappy end will terve as a warning to the young men of my age in this city. Let me entreat them to avoid all bad habits and bad coinpanv, and especially to nvold spirituom liquors. Most of the misfor tunes that happen to young men are the result ol Idleness and drink. I was not always dissi pated; and, up to within about a year of the murder, had lived a good Hie, working bard and maintaining myself respectably, but I was led away into drunkenness and vice. The conse quence is that I am called ou to meet a prema ture death, and to descend to the grave a disho nored but repents ut man. ASKS FOR TIIK m&YEItS OF THE GOOD. I ask that the piayers ol all good people may be -aid lor inc. 1 have only to state further that my mind is calm and composed, and that I am determined to meet my late as a good Christian should. I die with no hatred or ill feeling against anybody, and ask forgiveness Iroin all. Bernard Frikry. New York, August 12, 18GC N. Y. lloraid.
