An unknown wnuan died Irom tho effects of the heat yesterday at the Fourteenth Waid Station House. The lollowtnjr were admitted into the Pennsyl vania hospital: James Cluny, eiehty-four years old, was over come by the heat while in the street yesterday, and was removed to the ho-pital. He was in a fair way of recovery last evening. Ilia residence is back ot No. 734 Fitzwater street. James Gorman, twenty-three years old, a dray man was sunstruck yesterday alternoon, and soon afterward died irom the effects of it, at the hospital. Catharine Neely was overcome with the heat at Hun and Prune streets, und removed to the Pennsylvania Hospital. She is in a dangerous condition. ' A lad, name unknown, was removed to the Hospital lrora the barque Once, of Bremen, while laboring under the effects ot sunstroke. His recovery was considered doubtful. Mrs. Reuben Jackon was overcome by the beat in the upper part of the city, and was re moved to her residenoe, No. 1542 North Tenth street. Mrs. Elizabeth Riteeold, seventy years old, was overcome) in the street, and removed to her residence, No. 4 Green street. Conspiracy Case. Daniel W. Felt was chaiged, on the onth ot B. L. Gear, yesterday, with conspiring with two men named DavU and Hancock to cheat and detraud him of the sum ot $250, and by reason of said conspiracy cheat ing; him out of said sum. An advertisement appeared in a paper some time ago, tor a part ner. Mr. Gear called at the place drslgnated. Mr. Paris informed him that be wanted a part ner in the real estate and messenger help com pany. He then introduced mm to Mr. Felt, a clerk. An agreement was made, and the money required ($2.j0) was paid to Davis in ptesence of the accused and Hancock. Tbe lollowing day Mr, Gear called for the purpose ot taking part in the business, when he was informed by Felt and Hancock that Mr. Davis had left the city, and that they were the partners, and did not recognize him (Mr. Gear) as having any thing to do with the business. Felt was held in $101)0 bail for trial. Base Ball at Cape Island. To-morrow alternoon the champion Athletics will play, on Congress Hail lawn, Cape It-laud, a match game ot base ball with a picked nine selected Irom the best players belonging to several clubs In this city. The arrangements are for the Athletics to leave in the 9 A. M. train to-morrow, and play in the atternoon, to be followed by a grand hop in the evening, arranged by J. F. Cake. Esq., and which will be un ler the personal supervision ot Mark Hassler, Esq. On Friday naomlDg the players will play a farewell game, and in the a'ternoon will take the train lor home. Tbe match has been arranged by J. F. Cake, Esq., at the solicitation ot the guests at Congress Hall and other sojourners at the lei aud. Fire. Last evening a fire broke out In the fourth btory of the extensive druz warehouse ot Messrs. Stretch, Bennett & Co., No. 609 Market street. It is not known how it originated, and it is somewhat ot a mystery. Tbe store had been closed tor several hours, and there had not been any tire in the apartment in which tbe names were first discovered for a loug timp. Ihe tire was soon extinguished, and but little damage was done by it, but the entire building was flooded, and the loss by water must be very heavy. The stock is value! at about $30,000. Whatever the damage may be, it is fully covered by insurance. The Citt Tbeabcbt. During the past week the sum ot $54,630-81 was paid intOj the City Treasury. Of this amount, $32,78706 wa Irom taies of 1866 ; Irom water reuts, $228720, and irom Board ot Health, $2993-79. The Trea surer paid out during the same period, $296 976' 05, of which $164,857'14 was tor interest on City loan ; $17,309 to pay matured loans ; $53,327'48 on school warrants, and the balance to the various departments. New Line of Steamboats. It has been ascertained Dy experiment that the Mullicus or Batisto liver is sufficiently deep lor sienna boat navigation, and efforts will be at once com menced to establish communication between Egg Harbor City and New York. A few day since the steamboat houidain mod a a trip ot inspection, and the results arrived at were per lectly satistactory. The people of Egg Harbor C'ty have nlo determined to build a railroad from the Camden and Atlantic track to the river, a distance of about five miles, having already obtained a charter lor constructing said road. The Graph Rot. It is asserted that the rot bas already made iu appearance in the grape vineards in many parts ot tkmtb Jersey, and at Hanimonton tbe fruit is almost ruined. The rot is more extensive than last year, and attacks all varieties of grapes alike. Hundreds of bushels, it is aliened, will be destroyed by this disease among the vineyards. Portland Sufferers. Measures are being taken to hold a meeting in Camden to raise a sum of money to aid the unfortunate sufferers by the laic fire at Portland. Tnis is an object ot real philanthropy, and should receive liberal aid. The citizens of Camden will, no doubt, not be behind other places in their appro priations. Temperance A!eetino.
