Mr. Lcvlck opposed the resolution. He thought it a matter which belonged to the Sectional Board alone. Mr. Freeborn was of the opinion that the subject was worthy of consideration. He had heard that in some of the sections school children were allowed to run the street while the Principals were preparing boys for the High bchool examination. Tne resolution was adopted. JohmWalker was arrested yesterday at Filth and Market streets, for the larceny of a piece of alpaca from the dry goods store of Messrs. Stout & Atkinson. Defendant and another young man were observed by Michael Foley, the porter in the store, to bo standing suspiciously near a window, and being watcher), were eeen to take a piece of goods. When the alarm was given, the offenders ran, and one of thein made his escape. Walker was held to answer. A partial hearing was had in the case of Michael Mongan, arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the Bring of a building ued lor coffee roasting, back of No. 220 N. Second street. A number of witnesses were examined, and the testimony was to the effect that the de fendant occupies a portion of the front building, and that very soon alter the fire was discovered and extinguished, shavings were traced from the vicinity of the tire to the door of Mr. Mon gan's factory, and in the room he occupies was a quantity ot inflammable material, some ot iqo same kind which was found at the scene ot the tire. The testimony also showed that the de fendant was in his own room when a policeman firnt went to it and knocked at the door to obtain 'admission, but could not, and that the door was only opened alter a second and more determined effort was made to accomplish it. The hearing was continued for a week. John McCoy was bound over vesterlay, ty Alderman Hutchinson, to answer the charge of attempting 10 rob the money-drawer ot a store at Twenty -fourtn and uauownui ftreets. Counterfeiting. John Foster and Charles and John Moorhurt have been held by Alderman Toland to answer at Court the charge of making spurious DOtal currency, ihey were held each In $5')00 lor trial. On the 3a in t unt two ot the defendants left at a tavern at Dillwyn and Willow streets a tin box, which was found to contain plates lor printing counterfeit 60 and 25 cent notes, and also aios, in it, paper, and chemicals. The men returned on the 4th, nnd after obtainine the box were arrested. 1 ne third man arrested had been making Inquiries about the box during the day. The magistrate, upon these premises, concluded to let the case go to the Grand Jury. Tax Receipts.
