At a previous hearing, the witness stated that the repieseutations had been made by the wife of defendaut, and not by him, and yesterday the only additioual testimony was to the same elfect. Counm 1 for the aelendant called Alderman Beitler'p attention to the tuct that none of the WitneFBFs had testified to any representations made by Mr. Meyers, and the Alderman replied that the wife, though not under arrest, was in cluded in the charee. Held in $700 tor trial. John Bartley was charzed before the same magistrate with being concerned in the theft of oloth from the tailor shop of Neil McCully, Co.1 lowhill street, licur Teuty-thiru. The shop was broken into at an early hour in the morn ing, and two men carried a number of rolls of cloth out and put them into a waizon. and attempted to drive oil with them. Tbo hore was seized by one of the neighbor, and the mi-n lumped out and ran oil'. Two wituesses identified Hartley as one of tho men; several others did not think be was in the wagon. He was held to appear at thu present term of the Quarter Sessions. Board of Surveyors. A stated meeting of the Bond of Surveyors was held yesterday. A petition was presented t'roui owners of pro perty in the Twenty-tilth Ward, asking for street, and grade lines to be established Irom Old York road to Frankiord rout, and from Ere avenue to WingohouVing and Frankford creeks. Referred to a committee. The following communication was received from the City Solicitor: T. 8. KNEiss, Esq. My Dear Sir: Under the ordtnance of September 1, 1858, you can un doubtedly refuse to dedicate to public use any street the name of which has not been sub mitted to and approved by you. I do not think that we should reject a deed tendered tor the reason that the new street does not pass from one street to another street, or that it forms a court. Ihe mere leaving of a deed with us does not bind the city to pave, curb, or introduce the water. These n re questions for subsequent determination. The ordinance of August 22, 1854, would seem to indicate that the Law De partment is the cus.odian of all deeds and other assurances of title. Very respectfully, yours. F. Mr. Augustus 1 faff was cullea to tho chair, and Mr. Charles Baker appointed Secretary. A preamble Biid resolutions were offered, in wh eh are set lorth the damage that all interested in the manufacture of tobacco are sustaining from the present revenue law, which taxes the manuiactured article, and Congress is called upon to so change the law as to tax th8 raw material alone, aud also to increase the tax on imported manufactured tobacco. Wh'lo the lesolulions were under consideration, it was explained that it was not the wish ot the manu facturers that the planter should pav the tax, but that the leaf should be cent to buided ware houses, and the tax be paid by those who take it out. The preamble and resolutions were adopted. Passenger Cars Licensed. The follow ing statement shons the number ot cars now running upon the various Passenger Railroad", upon which they pay a license ot $:io lor each car to the Highway Department: Filth and Sixth streets, 40 cars; Tenth and Eleventh, 27; do.: Second and Third, CO do.; Fourth ami Eichth streets, 3H do. ; Union fane, fill do.; Green and Coates streets, 31 do.; Chesnut and Walnu 22 do.; Spruce and Pine, 14 do.; Lombard and South, 14 do.; Thirteenth an 1 Fifteenth, 20 do.; Seventeenth and Nineteenth, 14 do.; Fairmount, Ilestonville, aud Mantua, which includes the Race aud Vine and Arch street roads, 44 do.; (iirard College and Ridge road, 1C do. A New Police District. The ordinance chansing the boundaries of the First and Secoud Police Districts, so as to create a Third District, has been signed by the Mas or, and in a short time tbo old Moyamensing Hall, on Christian street, nel w Tenth, will re titted up as a p jlice station for the new or 17th District. Thp build ing, several cars ago. was used as a police sta tiop, and but little alteration will be nee Jed to make it fit for police purposes again.
