4 THE DAILY EVENING TELEGRAPH PHILADELPHIA, MONDAY, JUNE 11, 186G. :a r - MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS Singular Discovert op IIipbfm Tub-astir bY Indians. The Canollton (Illinois) Demdcr&t ays: For gome time past a party of Indiana, numbering Hitcen, liclonpr'mg to the Cherokee tribe, have been encamped upon the banks or the Illinois river, ten miles from this place. Their ostensible object was flshinc, bunting, etc, but it appears from recent development that their chief aim was to secure a hidden treasuie of seven nrns of Spanish coin which had been imbedded in the bluffs at tbat point in years gone bv by tacir ancient forefathers. Tbey seemed to be extremely cautious in their manners, lest the pale face should discover the cause of their presence in that particular lo cality, and secure the coveted prize, for which they had travelled many miles. Alter diligent search, which occupied Rome ten or twelve days, they succeeded in finding the spot where lay concealed the secret of their researches. Little remains to be told. Suffice it to say that, after due exploration, their brightest anticipa tions were by far more than realized. The urns f gold and other sacred relics spoken of by their chiefs, long since goae to the happy "hunt ing grounds," were secured, and on yesterday morning these untutored children of the forest took their departure for the far Went, with many thousand Spanish dollars to cheer them on their long and tedious march. Washbowl Divobcb Cash. The latest New York scandal is of a fafhiouable couple who quarrelled a few moraines since, whereupon the wile, by the advice of her parents, sued for a divorce. The case Is only noteworthy from the ridiculous cause of the quarrel. One morning, It seems that the husband washed himself, as usual, in the bowl used by both, bnt the lady, for soane reason, refused to use it that morning, and inng the bell for another. It was brought, when the now intiiinant husband flimsr it vio lently on the floor, breaking it into pieces. The wife thereupon called him hard names, when he locked the bed-room door, and insisted that she should use the bowl. She vowed that she wouldn't, if she "wont with a dirty lace for a week." tie swore she should, ana so nuincr me bowl, he seized her hands, and using sufheient lorce, washed her lace for her. tie then un locked the door and went to his business, while she went to consult a lawyer, and the suit began. Great Fires. Constantinople has been the most unfortunate of all European cities; since 1729 the intervals between the great tires have liever exceeded a few years, and in 1782 there were six hundred house bnrnt in February. seven thousand in June, and ten thousand in August, besides corn-mills and mosques. These calamities may be partly attributed to the ineffi ciency 01 the hre-engincs in i;onstantinopie. and to tLe defective supply of water. London has suffered severely, especially in iU theatres; the Italian upera House, the iyceum, ana the Olympic have each been burnt down once, Dr'ury Lane, Covent Garden, and the Surrey twice, and Astley's three times. A Sensible Young Princb. It is stated that Prince Humbert, son of Victor Emanuel, was recently ollercd the command of a corps of the Italian army, and declined it. "If I command a corps," he said, "and am defeated, people will say this comes of giving important commands to inexperienced princes. If I am victorious, my chief of staff will get all the credit. I prefer commanding a division, and doing wbat 1 am ordered." TBorrrNo Match for $G0O0. A great match has been made between the stallion "Fear naught," now in Hiram Woodruff's stable, Hart ford. Conn., and the chesuut gelding "Dun Mace," in that of James Turner, at Boston. It is to be mile heats, best three in five, to go as they please. It is to come off on the Mystic V ark, boston, in July. CITY ORDINANCES. RESOLUTION To Release a Certain Troperty of Daniel ft. Harner from the Lion of a Certain Judgment. Ki solved.
