It Is believed that the retiring Governor, Commo dore Engle, who is a native ot Pennsylvania, will be retained in the city, on one of the Boards now sitting here. He has administered the functions ot his not unimportant pose with much ability, and has added largely to the list of his personal Iriends during his residence here. lie entered the service in 1814, and com manded the splendid steam frigate Wabash, about the breaking out of the war. The num ber of decayed man-o'-wars-men harbored at the Asylum makes the command ot that post more perplexing than many where more active duties are perloraied. BrxGrxa or the State House Bell. A meeting ot firemen was held at Sansom Street Hall last evening, forthe purpose ot urging upon Councils the propriety of directing the Slate House bell to be rung for all tires, day as well as sight. Peter Donnelly presided, and staled that U was desirable to have the bell rung at all times. There were many firemen working in the neigh borhood of the State House, and their only mode of at-certaiulng the tact of a lire was through the alarm from that bell. The credentials of delegates from twenty-six companies were received. A Committee, to consist cf two trom each Fire DUtrict representea in tuc Convention, was ap pointed to petition the Mayor and City Councils to have the tiell rung. The General next proceeded to deal with the plans and prospects ot the Fenian organization, and concluded by making an urgent appeal to all present to purchase tho Irinh bonds. Mr. James Hageerty, ot cw York, was then introduced. He spoke of tho war through which our country had lust passed, and said it was a blow struck lor every nationality in tlie world, and that thousands of his countrymen bad emerired from the ordeal of blood with a mili tary preparation that would shake the British throne. The forty-fltth anniversary ot the Missionary Society ot tlie Methodist Episcopal Gnureu, within the douikis of the Philadelphia Conference, was held at Con cert Hall, last evening, Bishop Ames in tlio chair. The inanest on the body of Mrs. Knell, who died from the e fleets ot a putoi-shot wound, win De re sumed at the Coroner's oilice. on tridaynext, Mrs. Snell, we are Informed, died on the loth instant, but information of her death did not reach the Coroner until the 12th, and before he could make arrangements to hold the inquest, the body had beeu removed to Norristowu lor interment. Fatal Railroad Accident. Barclay White, 40 .years old, who resides in Newkirk street, below the Reading Railroad, was run over and killed by a train of cars, near the depot, Nineteenth Ward, lust evening. The Coroner was sent lor to hold an inquest on the body. Stole a Tush-Cart. A colored man named Benjamin Holly wai committed in de fault of $100 bail, yesterday morning, to answer the charge of stealing a push-cart. He was nrrested on Tuesday evening, at Fourth and Spruce streets, by Oliicer Jcll'ries. House Eobbed.
