The exercises were commenced by sinking the Lord's Praver by the choir, after -which prayer was offered by the Rev. Dr. Mur doch, of Boston. The annual report wan read by the Secretary, Mr. William Sjckclmoore, Jr., from which it appears that the canvassers, all members ot the Association, visited during the past year 3272 houses, distributed 26,056 napes of tracts, 1816 religious books, and obtained a large number of Sunday School scholars. The report alto states tbat the regular weekly meetings of the Association have Weu Tery Well attended. Addresses were delivered bv the R?v. G. A Peltz, Pastor ol the Tabernacle Church; E. It. Beadle, D. D lately a missionary to Syria; and tlio Rev. J. Hyatt Smith. The ollicers ot the Association lor the present year' are John 1). Ford, Presi dent; George fctrinecr, Vice-President; and W. Sellers, Esq., on behalf of Henry McKiuley and Samuoi Rhodea, has tiled a bill in equity in the Court of Common Plens, against the city of Philadelphia and Morton Mcilichnel, M'tvor, and J. 3. Lvndall. Controller, praying for an injunction to prevent the currying out of the recent contract entered into by the Mayor for cleaastng the street of the city. The defendants contend that the ordinance authorising the eontraot is in violation of law first, in rioi requiring by the terms thereof a pre vious advertisement lor proposals; second, in supplying a department of the city with labor for a term of years, without requiring a previous adveitihement for propo-als: and third, in con ferring, upon a Joint Committee of Councils direct executive, duty, in palpable violation of the 50th section of the at of 1854. They there fore ask that the ordinance to authorize the Mayor to contract lor the cleansing of the streets of the eity shall be declared unlawful. The argument in the case will take place on Friday next. Ueetikg of the Friends of Ireland. The second of the series of meetings inaugu rated by the Fenian Brotherhood was held last evening, at Kunsom Street Uali. Mr. John lias son presided, and stirring addrtusea were de livered by Mr. Stephen J. Meany tmd Major Haggerty. The speakers urged the necessity of liberal subpcriptions to the Irish bonds, that the smews mi;ht be provided without which IrisU independence could not be obtained. The wrongs of Ireland were referred to in a man nor calculated to awaken deep sympathy. General B. F. Mullen was expected to bo present, bat he did not come. A despatch was received from him, in which he eaid that he could not leave Kew York then, but expeeted to do so to-day. His despatch read, "An envoy is here: all is -well und fine at home." The meeting was largely attended. Coroneb's Inquest. An inquest was held yefcterday on the body of Mrs. Bncll, who died Irom the effects ot a pistol-shot wound on the Pith instant. Thoueh a despatch was re ceived at the Central Telegraph on the 12th, announcing her death, the Coroner did not conclude to hold an iijqnest till a day or two ago, and then the body, which had been buried in a cemetery at Norristown, had to be dis interred and brougnt back to the aity. A post mortem examination was made, the result of -which was that death resulted lrom concussion and compression of the brain. The physician who attended Mrs. Bnell stated in the certificate that death was caused by a shock to the nervous system, rue coroner's inquest was not con cluded yesterday. Pabade of Firemen. A meeting of delegates from five fire companies was held in Germantown on Monday evoa ing, for the pur pose of making arraueeuentt lor a parade in a lew weeks, when the Frank liu Engine Company of Geimantown will house a new and beautilul steam fire eneine. Mr. C. K. Miskey, of the Washington Engine Company, Ot Germantown, was elected Chief Marshal for the occasion. The Citt Treasury. During the past week, the receipts into the City Treasury amounted to $151,C(!3'05, of which $125,75(1 was lrom taxes of 18W, and f 21,21247 from water rente. The pavmcnts during the same period . amounted to $180,471 '(W. Of this amount, $42,486'23 was paid to the Gas Department; $15,300 on account of the Bounty Loan No. 2, and $70,714,10 on warrants daied prior to 1801. Another Passenger Railway. An effort is being made by some of the parties iden tified with the Broad Street Rail wav scheme to procure the passage of a bill for building a pas senger railway on Twelfth and Sixteenth streets, and to ion through nearly every other prin cipal street in the city not now occupied by railways. Horticultural Society. The Horticul tural Becietybeld its meeting and monthly ex hibition at the hall, southwest corner ot Broad and Walnut streets, last evening. Cure for the Rinderpest. Dr. Wil liam Bchmo le, an eminent physician of this city, alter a long and patieat investieation ot thus disease, in connection with other epidemics, haw come to the conclusion that the Rinderpest is caused by parasites erowiag in tbe skin, and can be checked by washing the animals with a solution of corrosive sublimate.
