HIE DAILY- EVENING TELEGRArH. PHILADELPHIA, TUESDAY, MARCH .20, 186G. CITY INTELLIGENCE for Additional City InUUtginc tee Ei i'oov. Boars of Stjrveycbh. A staterl meotirg ol tho Board ol' Burvcvors was held "Mterclay. I'etltio-ssior sewers in the following streets were cranf-d: Sewer oh Moutetey street, lwcen Twelfth ana Thirteenth; on Nectarine, street, between Eighth aud IS intli streets; on Market treet, between Thirteenth and Janipcr street?, and on Oxford street from I'ulethoip u Cwdine streets. Mr. Roberts, rhalranan of the com mitted) to whom was referred the Matter of widen: i) 3 Sonta College a venae irom Corinthian avenue to Twenty-fourth street, and 1'oplar atreet foam Iwenty-loiuth street to Fcnhsyl Tania avenue, reported, that "it h ,fnir to assume ibnt the ntiyer: sonth of Coates street, visiti-jg Ealrinouut 1'ark, will ent.-r either at Cailwwnill, Giecn, or Coates streets; those between Coates rnd Thompson streets. Till enter the Perk, at Poplar street; and those north of Thompson street will enter the I'aik at Oirarrt avenue. These, in all probabi lity, will lie the live main entrances to the Park. I'etfons visiting the Paik, either on foot or in cbtiIrcs, will enter it at the nearest pelnt, pro vided the entrance ts Late, tor they will get off the pavement as soon as possible, and also for the same reassn leave the I'srk at the nearest print to their homes. Cirrrd avenue, from West College a venae to the Path, Is eighty leet in width, and onlv ore square north of Poplar street. If Poplar 6trret was sixty feet wide from TVest College avenue to the Park, tt would, in our opinion, aeromaiodxie all the travel that would pa?s in that direction. The only part of Poplor street, west of Twenty-fourth street, suit able for line dwellings, U that between Twenty sixth asd Twenty-niuth streets, bain? of. limited extent. Poplrr sireet being sixty feet In width lrom Twenty-fourth street to "West Celleje avenue, and from thence 10 the Park fifty feet in width, and the south ivne straight, we deem it better t widen tbat part froiu West College avenue to tbe Park, by ruki njr ten leet from the lota on the north sicie, thus inakine t he north line eiralght and continuous. nth College avenue, Jroni Coiinth'in avenue to Twenty-fourth street, is now rity feet in width, and we see no reaion for making it wider than Poplar street, west of Twenty-iourth." Attached to the report was the following ruso lution, which was adopted: Resolved, That the Boa-.d of Surveyors recom mend Councils to autuoi!.', the widening of Poplar street from Went Col'ege ft venue to Penn sylvania avenue, mukiug it 60 feet wide, and tak ing tbe additional 10 leet from the property on the north side ot Poplar street. Air. Davis prentMl plkits for the extension of the Fairmotint Park and Delaware River Kail road lrom Girard avenue on Shaekamn.von to Beach, thence to Palmer, along Painter to Girard avenue, and taerce to Krr.nkiord road, tbe pr etnt tei minus. The plan ws approve ! by tde Board. Mr. Gladstone has announced in Parliament that a proposal will be mndtt for erecting build ings on some of the land at Sonth Kensington, for the reception oi certain collections (includ ing the Zoological) of the Di itish Museum. The Emperor Maximilian had written to that effect to Pius IX, and bis Holiness bad nomi nated four Cardinals, amoug whom were Fran conl and Franchi, in order to settle the terms of arrangement. The London Reader saysr "It is erroneously supposed that 'Hobiuson Crusoe' tirot appeared piecemeal in the Original London Jfoit. or heathcote'a InteUigtnce, a email folio lournal, which was commenced on the lilth December, 1718. The first volume, 'The Stranga Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe,1 was publishei in octavo on tho 25th of April, 1719: and the second, 'The Fi rther Adventures,' on the iieth oi the following August. It was not till tne 7th of October, in the same Tear, that the Oriqinal London l'o$t commenced giving two pages of 'Robinson Crusoe.' beyond its two pages of news, etc. 'The Further Adventures' were not concluded in that paper till the l'Jth of October, 1720. Mr. YV. Lee, in 'Notes aud Queries,' call attention to this fact, we presume, because 'Ro binson Crusoe,' as published in Jleatltcoto't Lnlei tigetwe, Is a book sought alter by book collectors, under the impression that it U the purest text, and tett-hos almost lis weight in gold when sold by public auction."
