A young man,, nampu Edward Jenkins, was yesterday after noon charccu with arson, in atterapiinir to burn the boai-hoiise ot Mr. George Sheppard, No. 1115 Beach street. Mr. George Bakeoven, Govern- n.ent watchman at Beach and Shackamaxon streets, testitied that about 1 o'clock on Friday morning the defendant camo to him and said that he had suspicions of a man whom he heard was going to set tire to Sheppard's building, he requested the witness to watch in a certain direc.ion, and arrest any one coming that way; the accused left, and shortly afterwards witness heard a hose cnri-iage going down the street; he alter wards met detemlunt, who said, I told yon there would be a lire. Fire Marshal Blackburn testitied that ho had investigated the matter, aud una conversed, wan the prisoner, who acknow ledged the crime. After notifying tho watch- man the prisoner had made the lire under the door and escaped in u different direction.
