' v ■'V- j Av York County FFA Annual Banquet The York County FFA con ducted its annual banquet and meeting, May 14 at St. Paul (Leb anon) Lutheran Church Fellow ship Hall. Andy Stein, president, called the meeting to order and Sherry Urey, chaplain offered a prayer. Following the meal, awards program took place. There were 76 FFA members, guests, and ad visors present from four of the six schools with active FFA chapters in York County. The County FFA White Rose Degree was presented to Steve Grove and Lauren Hawn of the Dover FFA Chapter. Those from Red Lion Area receiving the De gree were Brandy Bankert, Allen Bowman, Lisa Jones, and Kim berly Pomraning. The Star White Rose recipient was Brandy Ban kert. State Reporter, Julie Flinch baugh, graduate of the Eastern FFA7S One Mission: Student Success York FFA Chapter, gave a moti vational speech and congradula tory remarks to those receiving awards. Awards were given to members who placed first in their contests this past year. The past years officers were: President, Andy Stein; Vice Pres ident, Lane Innerst; Secretary, Kelly Jo Bankert; Treasurer, Hope Long; Reporter, Jamie McCann; Sentinel, Barbara Rich ardson; Chaplain, Sherry Urey; and Parlimentarian, Brandy Ban kert. The 2003-2004 year officers were then installed. They are: President, Rick Jones; Vice Presi dent, Lisa Jones; Secretary, Bran dy Bankert; Assistant Secretary, Suzann Pomraning; Treasurer, Lee Baumgardner; Reporter, Cory Thompson; Assistant Re porter, Kim Resh; Sentinel, Kim berly Pomraning; Chaplain, Amy Stauffer; Parliamentarian, Josh ua Bailey; and Student Advisor, Dustin Altland. Big Spring FFA In Regional Contest The Big Spring FFA Chapter recently competed in the South Central Regional level of Parlia mentary Procedure. Big Spring will move on from the regionals onto the state competition, June 10-12. Only the top two winners from the regional level move on. The results of the six FFA chapters which competed in the contest are Big Spring, first; Dover, sec ond; Cumberland Valley, third; Juniata Valley received fourth; Chambersburg, fifth; and South ern Huntington, sixth. “It was a tough contest and I’m glad we practiced a lot,” Sara Gutshall said. “The prac tices were never the best of our potential. The individual study ing helped us too but what is a team if they don’t practice to gether,” said Megan Kutz. In another contest, the Big Spring FFA Chapter president, Bernie Nace, participated in ex temporaneous speaking. She placed sixth out of nine contest ants. Lawyer tfafvnm. Aygifsj 1’6,2QP3, r Ag Pppgrpss,Sqqtipip : fcl3 Cedar Crest Participates In Speaking Contests The annual Eastern Region FFA Speaking Contests were re cently conducted at the Millcreek Lutheran Church in Newmans town. FFA members from Cedar Crest participated in Parliamen tary Procedure, FFA Prepared Speaking, and Conservation Speaking. Parliamentary Procedure Team members included Tara Miller, Jess Rose, Kayla Messer, Courtney Long, Katie Barlet, Alyna Galli, and Amanda Kerch er. The team placed second in the region. In the FFA Senior Pre pared Speaking contest, Jess Rose placed first. The Parliamentary Procedure Team and Jess Rose will repre sent Cedar Crest at the state con tests at Penn State University, June 10-12. Big Spring FFA Chapter The Big Spring FFA Chapter is starting an Alumni/Support Association. The first meeting will take place on June 19 at 7 p.m. at the old High School ag room. At the meeting, there will be an election of officers, a setting of by-laws, and planning of the next meeting, and activities.
